(D6 EE) Wedding Triage

A medical sector was set up upon hearing news of the Crescent Shadow attack. Access was highly restricted and only for registered medical personnel or those with enough rapport among the Hutts...

Cole took a deep breath and flashed the credentials he'd been given that afternoon, looking a lot calmer than he felt.

"Let's do good work," one of the nurses remarked to Cole. She was wearing her surgical mask and cap but her eyes were unmistakably familiar.

He nods solemnly, recognising the woman's eyes immediately. He was equal parts surprised that his faked credentials had been accepted without a glance, and completely unsurprised.

"Lots of work to be done," she said, "Why don't you go help with our primary patient, Doctor?"

"Very good," his medical training was starting to reassert itself, and he moved to where Kidaja was slumped on a gurney. "I need more light here," he barked with authority.

"Multiple blaster wounds, impalement from the chandelier, and not to mention the effects the toxin had on his lungs and nervous system." The woman looked to Cole and smiled through her mask. "What do we address first?"

Cole examined the Hutt laid out before him, pulling on a pair of the blue disposable gloves he carried and running his mediscanner over the hulking form. It had been a long time since he'd studied Hutt anatomy, and the details were sparse. "Get me some suction, all I see is blood."

The woman nodded and began clearing up the blood. "Hutt anatomy is rather complex," she murmured.

Better visibility cleared things up. If I sever here, he narrows his cold, hard eyes, that should paralyse most of his lower body. Then just a nick, here and here, he's readying his scalpel, he'll bleed out too fast for anyone to prevent it.

The scalpel flashed in his the brilliant white lights. Cole's hands are sure, steady, firm. They are unerring, and he is in his element, elbow deep in gore and pin-point focused. He doesn't notice when he starts to sweat, or that his injured leg is starting to throb. He's made the cuts, and freshets of the Hutt's blood gush forth sickeningly.

Cool and collected, "nurse, I need two microvascular clamps," though he knows that even he couldn't find and close those tiny, but devastating, incisions in time. "Increase the suction, administer the K1, we have to slow the bleeding." Distantly he is aware of how he sounds: calm and in control, keeping the others from panic even as the mediscanner readings begin to blow out.

One of the other nurses shouted, "We're losing him!"

Cole's contact nodded. "Keep that blood flow down!" She looked up to him with 'worry' in her eyes. "What next?"

He injects something into what passes for the Hutt's neck, certainly not the anticoagulant he'd just requested, and Kidaja's eyes flicker, coming to focus on the cool silver-blue of the doctor's. The Hutt recognises him.

Cole leans forward and hisses, "everyone pays."

The mediscanner sounds an alarm, and Cole composes his features into something appropriately regretful, "there's no next. I'm sorry," he almost sounds like he means it.

"What about defibrillation?" The woman grabbed the unit and held it up. "There must be something."

The mediscanner is still making that sound, "do you have any training at all?" he snaps. Jabbing a long, slender finger at the blood that has slowed to a gush now, the drainage from the suction starting to catch up, "even if he was tachy - which he's not - there isn't enough blood left in his system for the damn thing to pump."

"If you have blood and plasma for him, you can start a transfusion, but he's just going to bleed it right out again until I can find the leaks. If I can find all the leaks, before he's too brain dead for it to make a difference."

"So you tell me nurse. Do you still want to shock him? or can I move on to a patient I can actually save?" His voice never rises, but it is biting and acerbic. A voice that commands respect, not earns it.

"Right, right. I'm sorry." She let out a sigh and stepped back. "Shall we then?"

Cole snaps off his gloves with clipped gestures: the perfect image of a doctor who has just lost a patient. Shutting off the mediscanner alarm, he sighs, "who's next?"

There was enraged screaming across in another section of the makeshift medical center. "Shall we?"

"I demand that you live!" The Sith Lord was holding her hands over her brother, Anhel Rolm, and channeling Dark Side energy into him. She then tossed off her armored gauntlets and slipped on some disposable gloves. "The Force will not help me here."

"Lord Haydriss?" Cole closed the distance in a few long strides, flicking on the mediscanner. With a practised eye, he examines both the patient and the mediscanner's readings. He hasn't been able to pinpoint the exact toxin used in the attack, but he's narrowed it down to a pretty small field of options, and from there he can work on counteracting it.

The triage area was in chaos, nurses and medics rushing about and equipment scattered everywhere. Cole looks about quickly, snagging a medical respirator and ripping open the sealed packaging. He fitted the respirator, slinging his pack down from his shoulder and opening it.

The front compartment held dozens of clear vials with matching official-looking labels, in tiny pockets. Each label had a band of colour, and they'd been grouped by colour. These were the less common drugs in his arsenal, and he selected one now.

He worked swiftly, the way a duelist works a blade, with economy of movement. He draws off a small amount of a slightly milky liquid with a syringe, injecting it into a port on the medical respirator, and the device begins to vaporise the drug, meting it out over several breaths. Immediately, the man starts to breath more easily.

Cole takes a red-marked vial from his belt and injects something else into the respirator. As it also vaporises, he plucks the diagnostic computer from it's pouch and examines the data coming from the mediscanner. Satisfied that the damage to the lungs has been halted, Cole selects an anti-toxin from his kit and fits it to a hypospray, injecting it.

Lord Haydriss looked down to her hands and noticed them trembling in front of her. She looked back to Cole as she checked on the respirator and her brother's condition. "Thank you," she stated plainly.

Cole takes one of the spare data chips that he keeps with the diagnostic computer, plugging it into the handheld device and tapping at the screen a few times. After a moment, he withdraws the chip and holds it out to Lord Haydriss.

"Get him out of here," he instructs, firm but gentle. The icy hardness that he'd shown Kidaja had melted, and his refined features are concerned. "I've done what I can to stop the damage, but he needs proper treatment. Give the doctor this, it will tell them what I administered. They'll know where to take it from there."

"Right. Triage." The Sith Lord nodded and replaced her gloves with her original gauntlets. She then ordered the Imperials under her command to extract him and followed after him.

He makes a mental note to follow up with the Sith Lord later, turning and scanning the triage zone for the next critical patient.

A Devaronian stood over his Duros pal, observing his condition. He then noticed Cole and whistled him over. "He was shot multiple times and inhaled the same toxin as everyone else. If you want to look at the logs from my cybernetic lungs, then feel free."
