Black Sun Down [D2 LE]

Remmington arrives at Fancy's again. He decides to watch a bit of the big Hutt Ball game while he waits. Seeing some familiar faces on the screen he smiles before he places a bet down.

Ashla appears in a nice - if unrevealing - outfit. What am I doing here? I don't think this is what Master Maaka meant by trying to find common ground among the Sith. It wasn't Remmington exactly or even the fact that he was a Sith that bothered her. Ashla tended to have no interest in romance or sex. It's never been good for her. But she would be damned if she showed weakness in front of a Sith. So, here she is. On a date. With a Sith. The Jedi Council is going to love this.

Remmington notices her and greets her with a smile a bow. "Greetings lady Ashla. You are looking lovely this evening. Thank you for taking the time to come out with me."

"Uh. Thanks? You... You look dashing." It occurred to Ashla she's never been on an actual date. She suddenly hoped this was sort of ambush.

"My thanks for the gracious compliment." Remmy says with a bow.

"Is there anything here that catches your eye? We can do some gambling if you like but after that Hutt Ball game, I wouldn't mind some dining and drinks. There is a big Hutt Ball match going on, we can watch that while we enjoy ourselves." He suggests.

"Dinner sounds good." Ashla looks at the screen. "Why is Dango's team Sith?" She was more confused than anything.

Remmington offers her his arm. "I'm not sure what happened but I know most of those guys. I guess Dango needed a replacement team in a hurry."

"I believe there is a pretty good restaurant in this casino." He prepares to lead them to the aforementioned place.

Ashla hestitates for a moment. She's not a big 'touch' person. But she takes the arm and allows the Sith to lead the way. "Well, I guess we shall see."

Taking the lead, Remmington gets them a table and helps Ashla with her seat. "Once again, thank you for coming out with me lady Vyliis. I wished for an opportunity to get to know you better. If this helps Republic and Empire relations then that is a bonus." He smiles pleasantly.

His eyes drift to the holo and he notices that the Sith team is starting to get ahead.

"Please, just Ashla. Lady Vyliis just sounds so.... not me." She looks at the holo as well. "Maybe the Empire and Republic should just start settling their differences in Huttball. It seems our people have taken to enough."

"Ashla then. Please just call me Remmington/Remmy/Rem or whatever you may prefer." Remmington replies back with a soft smile.

"Well we are definitely garnering a lot of interest. Especially if we keep winning. Having a sporting event will help give our sides an outlet to vent their frustrations through." He nods.

He takes a look at the menu. "Anything catch your eye?"

"The steak looks good." Ashla puts down the menu. "So... how did you become a Sith?"

Remmington nods. "The prime rib looks pretty good. I think I'll go with that." He puts down the menu.

"Well I come from a fallen House. So Force users are pretty consistent in the family line. Granted the House fell and none of the descendants are anywhere near the level of our founder. Myself included." He explains.

"So I received some training when I was younger then went to Korriban Academy to finish my training. Well at least that part of it. I have a master now whom I am learning from."

He looks over to Ashla. "How are things done in the Republic? I hear that the Jedi eschew emotions and relationships. So how do you produce new Force users?"

"Well, I think some can get special permissions and there's Jedi who retire. But mostly, I think it's random people they find that turn out to have Force Sensitivity."

Ashla takes a drink of... whatever it was that was given her. "Honestly, Jedi still have emotions. It's just they try to control, so the emotions control them."

"Is that so?" Remmington listens on with interest as he places the order and gets a bottle of wine for the table.

"It doesn't sound like it to me. Doesn't part of the Jedi code explicitly forbid love? I mean, I can understand hate and other negative emotions. It is barely better than being a droid. Don't you think?" He refills her glass and has a sip of his own.

"You can't have one without the other." Ashla looks at her glass. "Do you know who my father is?"

Remmington shakes his head. "Can't say I know many people in the Republic."

"Ruvrass Vyliis is one of the most brutal serial killers in recent history. I think Corsucant brought the death penalty back just for him." She puts down her drink. "When I was young, he used me to get at his targets. Even made a game of it." Ashla smiles a sad smile. "I didn't know what I was doing at first. But I was 12 when he was captured. I knew then. I didn't get anything from his kills. But he was my father, and I love him. So, I helped him."

Ashla looks at Remmington intently, studying his face. "Was my love good? Would you want someone like my father and me running around the Empire? Emotions are just emotions. Love, hate, greed, selflessness. None of them are good or evil. They all have been the cause of countless horrible acts. And they all have saved countless lives."

Ashla picks up her drink, still watching Remmington's reaction. "The Code isn't about becoming a mindless droid. It's about taking yourself outside of your emotions and not allowing them to influence you. I assure you, if I did not love my father, I would not have helped him. And he would have killed less people."

Remmington sits there and listens. He doesn't really even react to the story about a brutal killer."While what your father did may be rather atrocious in the Republic. In the Empire, it's a Tuesday. Not that I will say that the Empire is lawless. More the opposite, it enforces the law very effectively."

He puts down his glass. He puts his hand across the table slowly, as to not scare Ashla, to put it on top of hers and shakes his head. "Love is a beautiful thing. Why do Jedi focus on the negative? Love brings people together, inspires, brings about miracles. There is nothing wrong with the love you have for your father."

"If you are strong then you don't need to fear emotions but take control of them. They are like the Force, powerful but can be uncontrollable if you let it."

Ashla cocks an eyebrow. "So, the Empire is filled with brutal serial killers that slaughter civilians at random?" Ashla shrugs. "I am sure the Empire is filled with brutality that even my dad couldn't imagine. My point wasn't how terrible my dad was. It was how my love for him caused me to join in doing things I wouldn't do otherwise."

Ashla looks down at their hands and almost pulls them away. She didn't like being touched, but she refuses to give in and keeps her hands where they are. "I still love my father. And I don't find anything wrong with that. Like I said, emotions are just emotions. They are not good or evil. It's how we react to them. The Jedi Code simply demands they be taken out of the equation."

Ashla removes one hand to take a drink. "Is it the best way? I dunno. But I don't see the Sith way to be the best way either. It doesn't exactly seem like the Empire is ran on love."

"Well to be honest the way of the Empire is one of power. The powerful move up while the weak are stepped on. It is pretty much as simple as that. What people do, well it matters little when you are on top aside from worrying about someone that may be waiting to take you down." Remmington explains a bit.

"While I do view competition as being good to push people to better themselves, I cannot agree with most of the games that the Sith play. They are a terrible waste of resources and man power."

Seeing that she is still uncomfortable he gives her hand a gentle squeeze before pulling back. "Not what is the best choice, the right answer? Who knows. We can only act and do things with the limited information that we have. I believe that it is good to keep options open."

He smiles at her last statement. "At the very least, I think that love is very important. It bonds people together and makes us stronger by working together."

He looks squarely her squarely in the eyes and smiles. "I sincerely wish to work for you as well Ashla. I hope that I can earn your love some day. Should you ever wish it, you are welcome to join me. I have been thinking that I should perhaps start a new House."

Ashla's jaw dropped at the last part. He's fucking crazy. "I... We.... I..." Ashla gathers her composure. Crazier than dad. "I. Thank you. For the kind offer. But we barely know each other. And it's a little early for me to start considering such things."

Ashla is hoping this is where another Sith comes out of nowhere and stabs her in the back. It would make things MUCH easier for her right now.

The reaction is a bit more than Remmington expected. He tilts his head a bit. "Just to clarify, I mean to have you on as a retainer. You have my Galactic Network ID, so feel free to call me whenever."

The food arrives and it looks rather good all things considered.

"Oh, this looks pretty good. Way better than nutrient paste." He admires the food before him.

Ashla seems to calm down some. "Of course. But I think I still have to decline for now." Ashla didn't believe him, but appreciated the save.

Ashla nods. "Yeah. It's rare I get to eat this good."

Remmington takes a careful morsel and puts it in his mouth. He savours the juiciness of the meat in his mouth as he slowly chews his food.

"That is pretty wonderful. So what do they feed you at Jedi Academy? Is it nutrient paste like us?" He asks.
