(D4 MA Event) Spirit Quest

Postby Nekoinu » Sun Jun 18, 2017 10:21 pm

Event Type: Bonus
Participants: Any Light-Side Force User
Timeslots: MA

Scrutiny: N/A
Description: Jedi Master Lyshea Mersl has decided to host a luncheon for those interested in deepening their connection to the Light Side. In her infinite wisdom, she did not warn anyone that the food is in fact laced with herbs meant to induce a Force Trance. Inside, she will guide you through a journey to deepen your connection to the Light Side of the Force.

Technically Dark Side users are invited as well. However, when the ceremony begins, the Dark Side within rejects it and it is automatically failed. The visions are tumultuous and there is no guide. So if you want to post in it and fail automatically, be my guest! Non-Force users simply enjoy good food if they decided to join, albeit with some slight drowsiness.

If you wish, the RP thread is here.

Rules: This is a solo event, meaning you will not affect each other's rolls. In each stage, you will have two chances to succeed. If you pass the first test, the Average Check, then you do not need to roll the second (the Hard Check). If you fail both, then you are considered to have failed that roll. The first 2 Advantage/Threat you roll are turned into a Bonus/Setback Die for your next check. You may continue to do so or you may have them affect strain. Any Triumph allows for a failed check to succeed OR for you to automatically pass a future check without rolling. You MUST decide to use this BEFORE you make the check.

Before each skill check, you must roll a Force Check. Each Light Side pip represents a Bonus Die for the next roll while each Dark Side pip represents a Setback Die. You may use Destiny to flip these as normal but keep in mind the daily limit.

And now, here are the stages:

There is no emotion, there is peace: The first vision takes place with an enemy. Either great, small, someone to be invested in. "Let go of any anger you hold towards them," a voice advises, "That is the path to true peace."
  • Make a Negotiation (Presence) Check at Average Difficulty. This represents coming to terms with the enemy.
  • Make a Knowledge (Intellect) Check at Hard Difficulty. This represents coming to an understanding as to whom your enemy is. The Knowledge skill is selected based on whom your enemy is. If they are a Republic senator, Core Worlds would apply. A Jedi or Sith would be Lore.

There is no ignorance, there is knowledge: Your next vision is that of fighting a horrific beast, spawned from your imagination. It appears to be immune to any of your attempts to slay it. The voice warns, "You will not overcome this through sheer will. Use your mind and it will guide you."
  • Make a Xenology (Intellect) Check at Average Difficulty. This represents coming to a logical conclusion as to what its weaknesses are.
  • Make a Perception (Cunning) Check at Hard Difficulty. This represents finding said weaknesses in the heat of battle.

There is no passion, there is serenity: After the battle with the beast, you must wander the wilds. Time is of the essence as a distress beacon sounds for your help. "There is no need to rush. The Force will guide you."
  • Make a Survival (Cunning) Check at Average Difficulty. This represents finding your way without troubles.
  • Make a Resilience (Brawn) Check at Hard Difficulty. This represents pressing onward despite the apparent toll on your body.

There is no chaos, there is harmony: The scene shifts to a raging inferno. You are called to jump from rock to rock in order to reach the clearing. "The fire is there. It is hot but it is simply illusion. Focus and get to your destination."
  • Make a Coordination (Agility) Check at Average Difficulty. This represents accurately jumping from rock to rock.
  • Make a Vigilance (Willpower) Check at Hard Difficulty. This represents being aware of the lava flow and avoiding it.

There is no death, there is the Force: The final destination contains the person you cherish most. They are fighting a battle in which they are slowly losing. There is time to save them but the voice tells you, "You cannot save everyone from their fate. Sometimes you will be called to perform duties where you will have to make sacrifices. But this is not bad or wrong; even if they pass on, they will still be with you."
  • Make a Discipline (Willpower) Check at Average Difficulty. This represents closing your eyes and allowing the battle to pass.
  • Make a Cool (Presence) Check at Hard Difficulty. This represents watching your loved one perish in battle and maintaining calm.

Rewards/Outcome: Anyone who successfully completes all the stages in the event automatically qualify for the award. If less than three people successfully complete all the stages, then she will choose the highest contenders up to three. If there is a tie, then she will choose more than her usual limit. Her talent is:

Purity of the Force: Lyshea teaches that the Force naturally leans towards the Light. Once per session, you may choose to convert all Dark Side pips without spending Destiny or taking strain.

Re: (D4 MA Event) Spirit Quest

Postby Sylvain Torsin » Sun Jun 18, 2017 11:07 pm

Sylvain heard of the luncheon being put on by the Jedi and arrived as a representative of the Empire to appear as if they were willing to participate in even the most mundane of get-togethers that their enemies were going to throw. In the spirit of goodwill and cooperation, he sat willing to listen to the Miraluka give a lecture on the light side or whatever she had planned. He sat at the table and chatted with the other people in attendance, undoubtedly a bit of a sore thumb all draped in black and with his mask tightly fastened to his face.

As the food arrived he removed his mask and began filling his stomach with the items that had been prepared. Shortly after ingesting a delicious crustacean entree he began to feel the effects of the Jedi's trick. Unable to resist the powerful dosage, he slipped into a drug induced trance.

Moments later he stood in his master's private chambers. Fog surrounded him as he turned to see Baras in his chair. Sylvain walked up to the table and looked carefully at his master. Baras held a frame in his hand, he looked at it with somber eyes as he realized Sylvain was there. Sylvain looked down at the picture to see a woman, a man, and Baras as a younger man. Baras quickly put away the frame and looked into Sylvain's eyes with rage.

"Get out!" He commanded tersely.

Sylvain looked at the man slightly different than before. The man who stood before him was no longer the terrifying monster that he had spent most of the last ten months with. He was a man... a living breathing man with normal human relations and feelings. Sylvain looked up to Baras and said, "I have no hatred for you any more... you must be held accountable for what you have done to the Empire... but you... you are not what you try to be. I see through your deception..."

Baras's eyes flashed with rage before his corporeal form shifted as smoke and blended in with the mist that surrounded Sylvain. The smoke moved and twisted in front of him until he found himself in a cave... The cave was on Korriban and a skeleton lay on the ground in front of him with a holocron under its ribcage. Sylvain remembered this scene well... it is where he had met Thy Yulani. He reached down to pick up the holocron when the remains of the fallen creature began to move. Other bones from within the cave rushed to the central point above the holocron and began to form a giant bone sith hound. Fire shone from its eyes as it completed its true form and roared vociferously at him.

Sylvain closed his eyes and reached out with the force to touch the mind of this aberration. He could feel the insuppressible hunger of the beast as it glared down at him. Sylvain called upon the force to move a bit of meat from his pack into his hand. He tossed the meat to the side and watched as the beast moved to follow it. Reaching down he picked up the holocron as the world shifted around him once more.

He found himself amidst a bleak desert with the Holocron in his hand. Twin suns beat down heavily on his brow as he walked through the dunes towards an unknown destination. He knew not when he would arrive, or how, but he knew the destination to be one of safety, support, and peace. He felt his legs start to fail him as he tripped in the sand. Looking up to the horizon he saw the wispy image of Kristal standing on the dune ahead of him. She motioned for him to come and could hear her voice in his mind, 'Come... don't give up now... don't forget your promises.'

Sylvain closed his eyes and calling upon all of his faculties, pushed himself up off of the ground to get back up and continue on his path towards Kristal... and towards being the man he wanted to be...

Suddenly the world around him was a fiery inferno. Rocks rolled in a stream of magma in front of him. He could see faces on each of the rocks. The faces of Shaisha, Kristal, Raven, Moyr, Aramis, Baras, Layne, and others... Sylvain looked across the faces and plotted a course to the bank on the opposite side. Skipping any of them would lead to certain death... it became apparent to Sylvain that each one of these steps, each event led to something else... it was a map... a plan... a progression. Each no less important than the last... He jumped from stone to stone, timing the course of his next jump carefully until he was safely on the other side.

Suddenly he found himself in his home on Dromund Kaas, Republic ships flew above his home as the sounds of battle filled the air. From his control center he watched the battle unfold with his aides at his sides helping him direct the forces. The banners of House Serasai and House Torsin hung from the walls. He looked out at footage of the battle and saw two young men fighting in the thick of battle. One with bright blonde hair, wielding a blue lightsaber against waves of Jedi, and the other with wavy dark-brown hair wielding a violet saber. Kristal came to stand beside him as he watched the flow of the battle turn against the blonde boy's regiment. If he was able to command the brown-haired boy's troops to move eastward, he could potentially help keep the flank safe and win the battle... but at heavy cost to the rescuing regiment.

He felt Kristal's hand on his shoulder as he gave the order that needed to be issued. The violet warrior cut through the lines of the Republic, his hair blowing in the wind behind him as he made his charge. As expected the Republic forces turned to confront this new dilemma, and allowed the other Imperial regiment time to reform and reshape. Blaster bolts surrounded the brown-haired sith, until finally one blast struck true. The boy fell to the ground temporarily before standing up and pressing forward once more. Despite his noble attempts, his ability to defend himself was greatly diminished and another wave of blaster fire saw another two blasts strike his body.

Sylvain watched with tears in his eyes as the boy's lifeless body fell to the ground. The blonde boy's forces took the distraction and capitalized... pushing back the Republic forces with increased fervor. The blonde boy's rage and pure emotion was evident in the hologram as the enemy forces cowered before his merciless attacks. Sylvain closed his eyes and put his hand on Kristal's hand as the banner from House Torsin slipped from its moorings and fluttered down to the cold concrete floor of his family estate...

As he opened his eyes he felt a feeling of peace and serenity so strong that it nearly overwhelmed him. He looked to the Miraluka who appeared to have set this up. He watched carefully... suspicious of what it was that he had been force to do... and for what purpose it would be used against him.

((Fluff under construction.))

Most mixed luncheons, Arali has to inform her host that she's vegetarian. Today, it seems to be the norm. Cheers for Jedi hosting.

As she eats, though, her vision grows distorted. The world distant...

...she's inducing a trance, isn't she?

Old training trick. Not one Master Lorne was fond of, but not every lesson came from her master. She'd been here before. It's an odd thing, being in this state knowingly, but she lets go of self, surrendering her consciousness to the force.

The world goes gray. Then, the colors split, between light and dark, coalescing in two figures in conflict, blade meeting blade, and not for the first time. An endless conflict lay behind them, and in the end, the light strikes down the dark... yet the dark remains, looking up at the victor, offering a hand, and they stand as equals.

As the image fades, there is a forest. A zelkar beast charges. The world has form. Arali's lightsaber is at her side, but she makes no motion to draw it. This beast acts for a reason. Most likely... territory!

And so, the twi'lek walks away, into the wastes, where she is at one with the world. She knows the signs, both to find her way, and to harvest the bounty of the land. And as the landscape becomes a hellscape, she flows through her environment naturally.

And in the depths, it ends where it must. Arali knows this is but a vision. Yet seeing her master, in the field of battle, surrounded at all sides, she acts. She raises a hand, harnessing the power of the land, one after another, gathering allies to shield her master. And then, it comes. A figure clad in red, annihilating everything in its path, no matter hard she tries to keep it from her master.

Then, her master takes one step, and his fate is clear.

One strike, and it's over. Both warriors fall to the ground, and those Arali has gathered look to her...

Re: (D4 MA Event) Spirit Quest

Postby Alysele Cortess » Mon Jun 19, 2017 1:29 am

Alysele sat down, looking at the others. What an odd bunch... especially the Imperial. Nonetheless, she took part in the luncheon and took her first bite from the salad. And then the trip started.

She blinked once. Twice. Thrice. The fourth time, she was standing in a field on Alderaan, and a familiar foe stood before her.

"Azranak. What are you doing here?"

The nikto was unharmed as he chuckled. "I am here to test you, witch. You prover your honor once. Do it again." He reared his giant weapon, and Aly drew her own saber, red hot and flushing her own anger.

"Let it go." She heard from... everywhere. "But, he.." "Let it go..." the voice echoed.

Alysele Cortess locked eyes with her opponent, as his own blade was striking towards her.

Finally she turned off her weapon. "You are not worthy." She let out a small breath. "There is no emotion. Not even pity."

The lizard disappeared just as he was about to strike.

In his place, stood.... something. An elongated, tall monstrosity, daggers sticking from its (her?) skin, fighting like it was dancing. This time, Aly, attacked, but each of her strikes was met by one of the thousand daggers, and she felt each stab and slash on her body, the white robe turning crimson with her own blood.

She was crying now, and it felt like the fight has been going on for a decade. She was desperate, angry, disappointed and just a mess.

"Use your mind..." Alysele let out a scream. "Easy for you to say!" She started running towards the monster, and slid between its legs, stopping at a column behind. Which she quickly struck, and the marble weight fell onto her opponent. She felt exhausted. She felt like... after her first fight with the droid. The giant one. The metal monster.

She started walking around in the ruin that she fought int. It was her home, she recognized it. Tears were threatening again. "What.. what happened?" She wandered around for what felt like hours. Hours upon hours. "The Force will guide me?" Her hands clenched into firsts, before she slowly released them. She listened, calmed her mind, with great difficulty, and just... listened. She felt a nagging feeling, pointing one way. She followed it, the way to the kitchen. Fond memories were swelling up, Arsele and Niall and her, stealing pies, sneaking around, playing hide and seek. Avoiding the harsh reality of the rest of the palace, just... being children.

When she entered the kitchen, she was horrified. It was on fire, flames everywhere, consuming every piece of furniture. It was as she remembered it all, yet...aflame. She tried to dodge around, but she got singed. "Ah! Focus! Focus where?!" Once again, she calmed her mind and... stepped forward. Every step avoided the fire. This wasn't about reflexes. It was about confidence, and skill. And perfection. Perfection was what she was trained to do. So she managed to step around it all, and exit.

She left the kitchen, only to see something even worse. Niall was fighting Azranak, wielding her lightsaber. He was obviously not trained, but he was still fighting. Niall... he never gives up. Alysele was frozen in place... until she saw his right arm being chopped off.

"I WILL save him!" She rushed forward, but bounced back. Was it a force field? A stray strike from Azranak? She stood up, her legs shaking.... but she didn't move again. She saw his eyes. His eyes were full of determination, and calm. This wasn't an illusion, though it was an image. An image of him as she thought of him. She stood, sad, and watched. The fight felt like it took an eternity. Even with bruised abs and a crushed leg, Niall was fighting. Finally, the last strike cut off his head.

Aly's tears stopped, though her vision was blurry. She blinked once to clear. Twice. Thrice. The fourth time, she saw a different image. Her lunch on Nar Shaddaa.

Postby Durasay Mixo » Mon Jun 19, 2017 10:55 am

Durasay walked into the meal, not really sure what to expect. He offered Alysele a warm, if small smile, before taking a seat at the table. It was an... interesting mix of denizens. He'd try to focus on the lecture, not really wanting to be distracted, though he knew if he had chosen to sit near the Makashi duelist, he might have been.

There is no Passion, only Peace Force roll: 1eF 1 Dark Side
Image

There is no Emotion, Only Peace (Presence 4, Negotiation 1, vs. Average Difficulty, 1 Set back): 1eP+3eA+2eD+1eS 2 successes, 2 advantage
ImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

For a moment, his vision clouded, before he came face to face with his enemy. One that enraged him, filled him with such hatred that he wanted to end them the moment he met them. Lord Zhorrid. He could picture her mocking him, insulting him being non-Human, as well as the way she casually dismembered and killed those Nikto. Wanting to draw his Blaster, he held firm. No, this was not the way. She was Sith, irredeemably so, but it painted her mind in such a way that he could understand her.

The fear. The anger. The way it twisted a person to this dark version. He wouldn't be like that. Couldn't be like that. Instead, he pitied her. And let go of that hate. His mind seemed centered, as the vision seemed to disappear into the mist. (OOC: Success, 2 advantage. Using the 2 advantage to add a boost die to the next check)

From the mist in the fields came this... creature. Massive in it's bearing, seemingly combining the worst features of rancor, gundark, and other creatures so hellish they could not be described in their monstrosity. Durasay gripped his blaster, firing wildly at the creature. The bolts didn't seem to harm it. Hearing the voice, he stopped firing. Observing it, thinking it through. Releasing that darkness from lack of knowledge, he felt the Force, felt the creature in the darkness. He knew what it was, what it was terrified of, what could kill it.

Raising the blaster, he fired through the mist, burning away the clouds, allowing the Light to come through. The creature howled in pain, before running from the Light

The creature left him in the wilds, as the mist began to clear away. Instead, it was no longer a field, but a harsh arctic climate. The cold didn't bother him, anyway. Grabbing his trench coat, he began to wander, to look for a way to survive. To get out, and find civilization. To find that beacon! People need help! But then that voice called out. He knew he could find them, to help them, without panicking. Taking in calm breaths, he looked for signs in the wild, finding his way clearly, with no other issues.

There is no Chaos, there is Harmony force roll: 1eF 1 Dark Side
There is no Chaos, there is Harmony Coordination (Agility): 3eA+2eD+1eS 2 successes, 1 threat

He could feel the arctic winds give way to fire and rage. The land around him splitting away, as only a few pieces of rock stood between him and oblivion. That slight twinge of fear gave way to him, as he stumbled back. No, he couldn't give out, not like this. Despite that he wanted to not be near the fire. The voice calling to him, seemed to bolster his doubts. Leaping from rock to rock, even losing his footing, he managed to make it safely across. (OOC: 1 setback to the next roll)

There is no Death, there is the Force force roll: 1eF 2 Light Side
Image (OOC: 2 boost to the next roll)

There is no Death, there is the Force (Willpower 1, Discipline 2, 2 boost vs. Average difficulty, 1 setback): 1eP+1eA+2eB+2eD+1eS 1 success, 1 threat

Finding his way through the raging Inferno, he made his way to another field. This one... he could see his comrades, his brothers-in-arms-for-hire. Craw and Nudimsu. Fighting for their lives against an onslaught of Sith Lords, monsters, and other dark creatures. His breathing quickened. He saw the opportunity, the way he could save them from all of this! Then the voice called out. Destiny was a fickle thing. Interfering in it, could have repercussions that he could not foresee. Instead, he trusted in the Force.

"We are one with the Force, the Force is with us..." He muttered underneath his breath, closing his eyes. The strain of worry taking it's toll, but he trusted the Force to guide his friends. He didn't need to interfere.

Opening his eyes, he saw that his meal had been consumed, that others seemed to have had a similar reaction. "That was trippy..."

Re: (D4 MA Event) Spirit Quest

Postby Yslane Tssilla » Mon Jun 19, 2017 12:49 pm

Yslane attended the luncheon representing the Foreign Office, and her embarrassment showed. This weedy bureaucrat eating with the honored Jedi. She caught sight of some familiar faces on both sides of the Force and gave each a nervous smile in turn. In all it seemed she would be surrounded by those far nobler then she. Taking the first bites of the offered food to outside observers, Yslane seemed to freeze.

In her mind's eye she stood among rubble and ruin, the wretched and broken wailing around her. She stumbled forward looking over the devastation, seeing these poor people stripped of dignity and all they had owned....preyed on by the cruelty of others. Yslane wanted to draw her lightsaber and end the lives of the looters, end the lives of those who had brought ruin. And there before her a man in black, "You did this!" She thrust her finger out in accusation. The form held no real features but she knew....knew it was smiling at her mockingly. With a casual flick of its hand she saw a building fall, crushing the survivors who had huddled in it for shelter. Yslane ignited her saber and prepared herself. "No....no this isn't the way. Anger, hate...these only make those like you stronger." She lowered her weapon and the world seemed to fade.

A deafening roared filled her ears, a beast more horrifying then she had ever seen tore through the jungle heading straight for her. Yslane whirled on it, blade in hand...but her strikes did nothing. The creature seemed to know her every move, deftly moving from every swing and reaching inside her guard. She felt a rising fear...how could she overcome such a beast? But in her mind she remembered....studies she had long thought forgotten. The beast resolved itself into a dog like beast. "Its sensing my connection to the Force...." Yslane closed her mind to the life around her and struck using only the basic sword techniques that formed the foundation of lightsaber combat. To her surprise it worked, the beast seemed confused at her clumsy swing.

But the world did not fade. Yslane found herself alone in the jungle. The fear returned, threatening to overwhelm her. Somehow she knew out there was a way home. A beacon left behind to call for help. Yslane had never left the city, but she was cunning and cautious. Her mind replaced the trees with towers, the foliage with the press of people. It worked, soon she stumbled into a clearing and saw the way out. And then the world faded.

The world was burning. All to familiar to her now...the fear returned. She saw a way out, a terrifying leap across a seemingly endless gorge. Yslane prepared herself to make the jump, but she couldn't....the fear overwhelmed her, she wept openly as the fires climbed higher and higher. Yslane could feel them now...her flesh starting to burn. But staring death there in the face her mind felt calm, the world cooled around her even as the flames grew ever brighter. Yslane took a breath and stepped forward off the cliff. And then another step and there was no cliff and fire. Only peace.

The devastation returned and standing across the field Yslane saw her friends and fellow students...her family in the Order. Fighting. Losing. She felt the urge to rush out to them. Maybe her added lightsaber would turn the tide, save her friends....bring victory. But something stopped her and she looked back. The huddled masses stood there. People she didn't know....why should she care about them when her friends were dying? What right did they have to live over those she considered family? "No....I am Jedi, we are the defenders of the people." Even as she knew what must be done, Yslane couldn't help but cry. Slowly she approached the fearful refugees, "Come on...everything will be all right."

Yslane looked up, she was standing now with her hands pressed against the table. The assembled faces in the room stared back. From the looks of many she knew that the visions were not hers alone. That everyone had seen something....or almost everyone. The few Yslane knew as lacking the Force just looked confused. She smiled, and wiped some real tears from her eyes, her vocie was calm. "Hello....to most of you we have not been properly introduced. I am Yslane Tssilla, Padawan of the Jedi Order. I am pleased to meet all of you." Then she sat back down.
