Gambling

Gambling takes up an entire timeslot though you may have an interaction thread at the establishment. There are three tiers of establishments, which gives you the vibe, difficulty you're rolling against, and the maximum wager you can make there.

  • Seedy Casino/Tier 1: Medium/100 Credits. Getting caught cheating gets you kicked out for the day.
  • Respectable Casino/Tier 2: Hard/500 Credits. Getting caught cheating gets you fined for 100 Credits in addition to the above penalty.
  • Top Tier Casino/Tier 3: Daunting/1000 Credits. Getting caught cheating gets you banned from Tier 3 casinos for the rest of the game unless you make up for it. The favor is to be determined by the GMs. This is in addition to the 100 Credit fine.
You may attempt to gamble at a single Tier until you win. Once you win, you are asked to leave for the day (but are encouraged to come back tomorrow!) but you may go to a higher Tier if you so desire.

Gambling has a 1-1 payoff, that being, if you bet 100 and win you receive 200 back. You do not receive any difference for more Success/Failure. For each Advantage/Threat, you add/subtract 10% of your original bet regardless of the end result. For example, you can wager 100, win on 2 Threat, and receive 180 back. This can make you end up paying more if you lose and have Threat. A Triumph means that you always win and a Despair means that you always lose regardless of Success/Failure.

Rolling for any game is Cool (Presence). However, you can cheat using Computers (Intelligence), Deception (Cunning), or Skulduggery (Cunning). This upgrades the check to include one Challenge Die. If you receive a Despair, then you are caught cheating in addition to losing your wager. You do not gain any credits from Advantage and you suffer the above penalties.

Since it has been asked: you can get someone to help you while gambling. This can be fluffed in multiple ways but mechanically it is the same as Assisted Checks. This still takes up the entire time slot for the person helping, meaning they cannot use the time slot to gamble by themselves and so on. In addition, getting booted out for the day applies to all parties.

Since this was asked, I will post it as clarification. When you lose your wager but win some back anyways from Advantage, this does not get you removed from the casino for the day. This is considered cutting your losses and therefore you can roll again at that Tier for the Day.
