The Morning Report [D6, LM]

[Luth Khalan]

She shakes her head. "No, don't worry about that. We have what we have to work with. It sounds like something's up with the higher ups, from how you were talking," she says. "I'm gonna have to try and think about what to do when I get back..."

[Nekoinu]

"Most of the chain of command is fine. It's just Matthias." She shook her head. "He's insane."

[Luth Khalan]

She looks over at her, eyebrows furrowing. "What happened? What's going on?"

[Nekoinu]

"I really shouldn't. Operational security, and all." She took a deep breath and looked away. "I'm sorry, L... agent."

[Luth Khalan]

"You already said he's insane. If-" She cut herself off and shook her head, resting her face in her hands and rubbing it. "No... never mind."

She sighs after a moment. "I'm sorry. You've got enough to worry about without my bullshit." She gets up. "Seriously... if it's that bad, I'll trust your word on it. Call me if you need me."

She nods to her and gets up.

[Nekoinu]

Naveera lowered her eyes. "Do you know Sath Kwa'to or Zanebry Varliss?" She let out a heavy sigh. "I don't want you to end up like them."

[Luth Khalan]

"Sath Kwa'to, no... But I've met the latter once." She said, eyebrows knitting a little in confusion. "What happened to them?"

[Nekoinu]

"Both of them were court martial'd for orders from our mutual friend," Naveera explained. She closed her eyes and shook her head. "I can't believe I'm doing this. Damn this moon. Damn Zanebry..."

She looked back to Luth and smiled weakly. "Zanebry might need your help. Matthias is planning on utilizing a bioweapon against the Empire. And another group is planning on taking it and selling it." A pause. "That man we assassinated, he was a slicer on that team. It all connects back to it."

[Luth Khalan]

Her eyes went a little wide, but she kept her cool. "A bioweapon... That would take out civilians, too. Any agents where he decides to release it," she says, almost disbelieving. She shakes her head. "And if it gets out, that becomes so much worse... You're right."

"Naveera, if I don't retire soon, I'll either end up like them or, even worse, end up like Matthias no matter what. So don't worry about that part. If Zanebry needs help.... Do you want to play go-between for this?"

[Nekoinu]

"I'm sorry for not being upfront about it." She let out a deep sigh. "I might have to retire too. Damn 'operational security' is starting to turn me just as jaded. As for a 'go-between,' I'm not sure if that's necessary. He's not officially affiliated with anyone so meeting you should not pose a problem."

[Luth Khalan]

"Sounds good. I'll see if I can find him," she agrees. "Yeah... This job makes people jaded. Op sec, the ops themselves..." She runs both hands through her hair. "I don't know. It's important, but... I just don't know."

[Nekoinu]

"Maybe we're meant to just cycle out quickly. Do it temporarily and then never stick to it." She sighed. "I wonder if Matthias was like us when he first started."

[Luth Khalan]

"Maybe... at least field agents. Do it for a little while, then cycle into a desk job... I don't know," she said with a sigh. "Maybe he was. You become jaded, to have to justify more and more of what you do, and soon everything's justifiable for whatever you've been clinging to for your own sanity."

[Nekoinu]

"Maybe I'll be able to dig up old psychological profiles of him, though I'm sure he keeps those under a tight lock." She let out a sigh. "Hopefully we can just put an end to his crazy schemes. He might be good at his job but we can't let him get away with whatever he's planning."

[Luth Khalan]

"Oh, I'm sure..." She shakes her head. "That'd be good. And good at his job or not, he's going to keep churning through agents one way or another. And getting a lot of noncombatants killed, it sounds like."

[Nekoinu]

"We'll put a stop to him. Hey, maybe he'll even get a court martial." She let out a sigh and checked the time. "We should probably split up now. But I'm sure we'll keep in touch, alright?"

[Luth Khalan]

For some reason, the suggestion that he would get the poetic irony of a court martial is what sets Luth off. She started to giggled a little, then laugh, covering her mouth as the stress of the last week let out in a burst of laughter. "Sorry..." she says after she finally calms down and catches her breath. "It's the stress. Kinda needed that, though. Maybe it'll get me through the end of all this relatively sane. Yeah, we'll keep in touch." She gets up. "Good luck."

[Nekoinu]

Naveera added her own laugh to Luth's. "It is kind of funny from a morbid sense, huh? But alright, stay strong out there, alright? If we play our cards right, we'll both come out of this with our heads and backs clear."

[Luth Khalan]

"Yeah..." She smiles and pats Naveera's shoulder before heading toward the door. "We got this."

[Nekoinu]

The twi'lek stayed on the bed and smiled. "I'll be here for a bit. Best not to walk out together. Take care."

"I figured. You, too," she nods and heads out of the room.
