Cole took a deep breath and allowed himself a long moment to admire the Sith stretched out before him, the bulk of muscle mass, the spurs and barbs of his pureblood heritage, the sheer size of him. He turned the spectacles back on.
Unassisted, it would be a lengthy procedure, and he began with the local, infiltrating the Sith’s gorgeous carmine skin until half his abdomen was numb to the touch. He tapped a finger against Jo’ren’s stomach, checking the reaction, confirming the feeling was gone.
With the diagnostic overlay, he could see far more precisely where to cut, but Jo’ren didn't need to know that, and Cole lingered for a few moments, stroking the numbed flank before committing to the incision. The cut was larger than the one needed for the pureblood's thigh injury, and Cole cauterised the exposed edges of skin to slow the bleeding, the sickly smell of burning flesh filling the room.
He opened the wound, locking it with two pairs of retractors, creating a gaping hole several inches wide, glistening entrails pulsing in the light. More anaesthetic followed, numbing the muscles and a length of intestine. Implements flashed brilliantly in the light, blood vivid crimson against shining steel, scalpel and forceps in endless motion as Cole excised the damaged flesh, unrecognisable shreds of muscle and viscera plopping one after another into a clear dish. Digging deeper and deeper into Jo’ren’s body.
Cole paused to roll his neck, setting aside the implements and taking up a synthflesh applicator in their place. Painstakingly, he applied the flesh simulant, repairing perforations and incisions, carefully working his way back to the surface. He placed a few sutures in the pureblood’s oblique muscles, but he'd cut along the muscle grain, so they would pull less when the Sith moved.
Finally, he trimmed away the cauterised skin, pinching the wound together and sealing it with synthflesh, using both hands to gently press the sides of the cut together until the bond took. Peeling off his gloves, he cleaned the area and dressed it with gauze. “Try not to tear that open,” he finally said, breaking the silence.
