After his encounter with Darth Xevious' son, Rumun arrives to Haydriss' lab. Rumun is quite interested in this research, especially now that is has to do with what Zash is doing and Hazzan's quest by Moyr and the others.

Lord Haydriss' laboratory was not particularly impressive due to the relative haste of its construction. There were still crates to be unpacked, the quarters were not particularly large. The equipment was adequate and yet everything was still orderly.
At first, the Sith Lord did not notice her research assistant. She was busy with two tied up slaves. One was repeatedly sliced open by a surgical arm while the other was locked up to a kolto machine. However, it was the man given mundane medical treatment who appeared to be in more pain. After the first man bled, Haydriss lifted her hand and grasped onto the second man's skull, which elicited screams of agony. She then placed her fingers on the open cut, sealing it shortly afterward. "The transfer is not working properly," she hissed at her non-Sith assistant.
"My Lord," he replied, "Rumun Gol has arrived."
"Excellent! You shall log our proceedings thus far." She turned about to the Duros and nodded. "Welcome. Have you discovered any new information since I have last seen you?"

'' My Lord Haydriss '' Rumun bowed respectfully. Looking around he noticed that the building was new and still have some equipment to be unpacked. He didn't care about the gore.
'' I have studied the lives of the Triumvirate as you requested and have formulated some theories about how this research of yours could relate to two of them, Darth Sion and especially Darth Nihilus. But beside that I have not discovered anything worthy of mentioning. '' That was the truth, HE has not found any information that could help to her research.
'' I'm sure that, after yesterday's conversation, you have possibly thought about the same theory that I have formulated. '' He said. '' In any case, what can I do to help you here, my Lord?'' He asked politely and with interest.

"First I will inform you on my current experiment. I am able to siphon the life from this wretch but it is consumed by my body. Healing the other man is no different than if I had never drained the first." The Sith Lord looked to both of her captives and shook her head. "I have tried executing one and reviving one with the other's life energy. However, the only result is me consuming one of them."
She looked to the rest of her laboratory and back to the Duros. "Do you have a hypothesis on how I should change my method or would you prefer overseeing the unpacking of my equipment? "

Rumun approaches to where the two subjects where restrained. He observed them for a moment and thinks.
'' Hmmm, when you siphon the lifeforce from the first subject, is there any external or internal physical damage to the subject's body, my Lord? Besides dying. '' He asked still looking at the slaves with interest.

Lord Haydriss looked to her life-force bag. "The body appears to internally weaken when subjected to my machinations. There is no particular location in the body which I have determined to suffer the most."

'' This is pure conjecture from my part but let see. As I understand, when you completely drain the life force from the first subject, you absorb it and heal yourself becoming part of your own lifeforce. The first subject's body suffers internal damage and he ceases to be alive. '' He began his explanation.
''Then you can transfer your own lifeforce to a second subject. The second subject own body heals as life energy is transfered to his body, while your own lifeforce, diminishes. But because you have drained the lifeforce from the first one, then you do not suffer any damage, because the net lifeforce your body was holding was your own plus the first subject's lifeforce.''
''You can reverse this experiment by draining the second subject, transfer it to your body and then try to return the life force to the original subject. But then you fail. The first one does not revive.''
''I think this happen because, when you drain completely the subject's life force, then his so called 'soul' , 'force energy' , or whatever is called the interaction between the life and death, passes to the netherworld of the force, then he cannot return to life. As the force is the principal and fundamental interaction between life, death and everything that binds this galaxy then you cannot make him return to life because you are not making his soul come back, you are only making his body be healed.'' He finishes.

Lord Haydriss remained silent as Rumun spoke. At the end of it, she nodded. "I believe you raise an excellent point. A sentient being may possess another essence. You referred to it as a 'soul.' If your hypothesis is correct, then that is what I must seek next. However, at the moment it is pure speculation."
A pause. "I shall correct you on a few notions. I am not transferring my own life force to the subject. I am using the living energy surrounding the patient to heal the wounds. It does not come from any being; I may heal myself without harming another. I consider the experiment to be a failure because I am not utilizing the first subject's essence to heal the other. Neither step relies on the other.
"In addition, I have been unable to document if my lifespan is increased or if only my wounds are addressed. My current theory is that it is only the latter."
One more pause. "I am satisfied with your input thus far. Although I have a new inquiry: do you know how to manipulate life essence with the Force?"

Rumun listened with interest to Lord Haydriss, nodding as he analyzed her insight. Rumun was just an apprentice so he barely understood if his theory was even possible, but to him it is just logic. There must be some link between the beings so there's a success. Without a continued connection between them and their power in the force, there's no way to achieve positive results.
How the hell you could do that? He had not a single idea.
'' No, my Lord. I'm not trained inthe application of that kind of power. I have only trained in basic force manipulation of the mind and movement of objects'' He replied. '' I only theorized this after reading about Darth Traya and Darth Nihilus historical powers and linking it to what I do know about Darth Zash own research'' He shrugs.

"You will learn if you are capable. It would help your research. If the ability is lost to you, then you will monitor my progress." She turned back to the slaves and looked to both of them, unconscious from the exertion. "These experiments tire out those of weak will. I require many subjects for my research. That is another avenue in which you may assist me, Rumun."

'' You need a continuous procurement of healthy batches of new test subjects, my Lord?'' He asked as he observed the slaves.

"I had an arrangement with the Jaw of Oblivion but they were absent at the last exchange. You may expedite the investigation as to how this happened if it suits you, Rumun." She paused. "I would not have you waste your talents if that is not in your repertoire."

'' Well, I'm not the best of fighters, certainly there are greater sith warriors than me from my class, like Lord Deathwright or 'The Little Wrath', but I should now be able to defend myself after my master's extensive battle training. '' He commented about his own battle skills.
'' But I can investigate about what happened to the Jaw of Oblivion. I do have some contacts from my master's own forces, mostly dregs and scum from the underworld, and I have the training to influence the mind of others, so I can navigate and make my way through th underworld.'' He explained his own capabilities to Haydriss.

I suppose that my social skills and influence force power could do the job. Plus Dapper said that I do have some powerbase from Hoshi's followers.

"There is no overt reason to believe they will be hostile. Other parties may interfere with your investigation." Haydriss tilted her head. "You appear confident of your capabilities. I will leave that to you."

The woman was unable to resist laughing. "You are an excellent assistant. It is a true shame that I did not seek to make you my apprentice." She motioned to the boxes. "You may do so or you may analyze my trials more fully."

'' Well, I do not resent to do this kind of work, my lord. I have been doing it since I have memory.'' He commented with a smile.
'' In any case, I do not wish to disturb you anymore, my lord. For now, I will help you with the boxes and occasionally look at what you are doing, in silence. '' Rum says with respect and bowed once more.
Then he proceeded to unpack those boxes with care. He investigated what they contained.

Rumun's brain tries to identify the scientific implements but it is ultimately unsuccessfully. However, he is able to notice a trend among the medical equipment. In addition to labeling each piece properly, its specifications are for humans and Sith with added modifications for beings with two hearts.
But other than scientific equipment, Lord Haydriss also brought numerous Sith artifacts. Scrolls and other antiquities. Perhaps the Duros had been too thorough! A minor spirit leaped out to assault him. "You awakened one of them? How intriguing. I expect you will handle it."
---
1 Strain from Education Roll. You can roll a Xenobiology Check at Average Difficulty to identify which species has two hearts. If you know if off-hand, go ahead and have Rumun know it too.
But for now: roll Vigilance (Willpower) please for initiative!
