The Magpie Invades the Republic [D10, EM]

[Satele Shan]

"That's not the Jedi way, if you want to be Jedi you need to embrace that. If we can stop him we'll try but we don't set out to kill," Satele responds.

[Layne Hoshin]

"But sometimes you *have* to kill to prevent greater tragedies. Surely you must recognize this."

[Satele Shan]

"We do, but that is a decision for the moment not something premeditated," Satele responds.

[Layne Hoshin]

"Alright," she nodded, "I can live with that. But *if* you're going, I need to be there. The Voice is too powerful for you to face in combat, and you will be forced into it if Baras' trap doesn't kill her. But if I'm there, she could be reasoned with perhaps."

[Satele Shan]

"We will see, if you are to be Jedi... it may be best for you to avoid any actions that could force you to draw on the dark side. You have too many emotions connected to this Layne, you will have to let go. For now we should focus on you, and making sure you are safe," Satele replies.

[Layne Hoshin]

"It is the fear of the dark side you teach your students that makes so many Jedi succumb to its lure when they discover its power for themselves. I have no such fear, and know firsthand both the power it gives and the price it demands. Your knights and padawans would be at greater risk of falling to it for such a mission than I'd be."

[Dapper Dog]

Master Thun chuckles and says, "I like her. I do agree with Satele that discussing who would be best for such a mission is a bit beyond the purpose of this meeting."

[Layne Hoshin]

"Then what *is* the purpose of this meeting? You were discussing the fallout of last night, before I came in, weren't you?"

[Satele Shan]

"It does not matter, what matters Layne is that we are here to help you. That does not include trying to formulate a plan to strike at your old master or his plans. The Council will have to discuss that when we have actionable intelligence. For now take some time, perhaps meditate and think of what you want your future to be. I will reach out to the Jedi Council and bring them your proposal but this is only the first step, there will be many more and everything will be expected of you. A Jedi is selfless, they serve the greater good, and ask for no reward in turn," she offers with a smile.

"I believe you can do it, but it must be one step at a time."

[Layne Hoshin]

Well of course they didn't trust her enough to include her in whatever they *had* been talking about.

"Fine," she said crossing her arms. "I can do that. Before you dismiss me and continue your conversation though, you might want to know the real identity of the Magpie. It's the former apprentice of Baras, Sylvain Torsin's mother. I figure that might be relevant somehow."

[Satele Shan]

"We are aware," Satele says. "Though I appreciate your assistance in the matter."

[Layne Hoshin]

"You knew?"

[Dapper Dog]

"You knew?"

Master Thun responds, "Yes we knew, we don't just sit around all day meditating. We have a whole Republic to keep safe."

[Layne Hoshin]

"But..."

She wanted to argue and be like; 'but why didn't you do anything about it!'...

...but of course she understood why. Until now it had just been Sith infighting. And Magpie had been aiding the republic with intel too, so there was that.

So Layne didn't throw a fit about it. That would serve no purpose.

"...I understand," she said instead after composing herself, "Are there any other questions you have of me?"

[Satele Shan]

"Will Daz be joining us as well, I sense he has a strong connection to the Force," Satele asks.

[Layne Hoshin]

"He is my apprentice," she said, "He goes where I go."

[Satele Shan]

"That is all we needed to know," Satele says.

[Layne Hoshin]

She looked between those gathered, to see if that was indeed all. If it was, then she'd nod and depart.
