Nar Shaddaa

While he could have used his own datapad, or perhaps one of the smaller holocomms, this situation called for a bit of extra formality. Niall took one of the larger ones instead, that would project a hopefully fairly clear image of him, perhaps with a bit of shading. Mentally reviewing his words, he made the call to Dango the Hutt.

Dango answers personally and says in Huttese, "Greetings, I am honored that the Republic is reaching out to me. How can I be of service to you?"

Niall wasn't capable of speaking Huttese, but he could understand it well enough. "Your excellency. We are honored to be received by you." He gave his best courtly bow, honed by years of training on Alderaan. "I am speaking on behalf of the Republic military regarding an incident that occurred in the Red Light District yesterday afternoon, galactic standard time. We wished to request your assistance in resolving this matter."

The Hutt says with a concerned chuckle in Huttese, "I think I understand. There was violence. One of my security officers was overzealous. He has been disciplined without pay."

"It should not happen again. Though I am told that there is an outstanding debt for a doctor operating a clinic and not paying his fees on time."

Niall inclined his head. "Of course. It was a cultural misunderstanding on our part. There was no intention to deprive you of any income, your excellency. The Republic will make good on the debt, and your assurance that it not happen again is more than sufficient."

His expression grew sorrowful. "However, I wish to stress to you how precious the lives of our soldiers are to us in the Republic. We don't measure their loss in money. And therefore, in a similar spirit of cultural understanding, I would make the request that the guard be turned over to our justice system. Or, failing that, that he receive such discipline from you as you deem equivalent to what he would receive from us."

"Of course, where should we deliver the officer into your custody?" Dango offers.

Niall bowed. "Thank you for your understanding, your excellency. If you please, have him delivered to our compound. Our security forces can take him into custody there."

The call ends.

Another call came in, one for 'Captain Alderaan.'

Niall stared at the holocom for a long moment, his expression bland. Finally, with a sigh, he answered it. "Captain Organa here." He said.

"Su cuy'gar, Captain Alderaan," she said with an amused grin. This call had been right before she went to visit Zanebry. "I'm sure you'll be happy to hear that we will be taking your offer."

Niall laughed, shaking his head. "Su cuy'gar, Vera Ordo. And yes, I am happy to hear that. We'll have to drink to that next chance we get."

He pursed his lips thoughtfully. "Well, that's step one. I was hoping you might be able to give me a suggestion on where to start next. After all, like I said, the Republic has big plans for you. We'll need more Mandalorians for you to train."

"We'll see if that happens. It might be smaller than I anticipated." She shrugged. "None of the Republic-leaning Clan leaders are responding to me. They're going silent and I think I'll have to too."

"Oh." Niall frowned. "I see." He is silent a few moments.

"Vera..." He began. "You've just signed on. You may be Mandalorian, but you're also one of us now, too. And we look out for each other. So if there's something that we can assist with, I encourage you to ask." He pursed his lips. "And if you did somehow manage to get word to those other leaders, you could tell them the same thing."

"It's unlikely they'll sign on, Captain. They have a streak for independence and tradition." She smiled and shook her head. "I'm not the prime example of a Mandalorian. I sneak around, take enemies out in an unfair fashion. A pariah, just like my sister."

A pause. "But unlike Thera, I'm not acclaimed for it. Captain, one of my expectations is that you will write my name down in history. I will make a name for myself." A small laugh. "Hopefully I will be acclaimed as a herald of a new age rather than a martyr."

Niall smiled. "Count on it. That's a promise I intend to keep. And in the Republic, we like our heroes alive."

"Still." He added. "If you do get the chance, have them contact me. And I'm going to go looking. Signing on absolutely does not mean giving up your independence or your traditions. If they need to hear that from my lips, they can."

Vera shook her head. "I think they want to be in charge of their own units, strategies, and targets. As for me, well, we never really picked our targets. Was always based on contracts."

The Mandalorian smiled. "Good. Monuments would be nice, by the way. The others might not agree but I would love it if it was a statue of me."

Niall smiled, narrowing his eyes. "When I said Irregulars, I did mean Irregulars. All that is not out of the question."

He laughed at her request. "Tell you what, Vera. You prove decisive in liberating a city or something, and I'll make it happen. And the bigger the city, the bigger the statue. Deal?"

"Alright, alright. If I can get a hold of them, I will. But the name 'Vera Ordo' isn't exactly something they hold in high esteem." She drew out her suppressed pistol and spun it around a bit for the Captain. "'Dishonorable tactics' and all that."

She nodded. "Alright. Wouldn't be right if I had a statue just for sitting on my butt."

"That wouldn't make for a very impressive statue, that's certainly true." Niall said, dryly humorous. "No, we have big plans for you, after all. I'm sure we can get you one with a properly heroic pose."

He nodded. "Well. Glad to have you on-board, Vera. And I do owe you a drink."

Vera pulled out her dagger and took her stance. "Like so?" She then stashed it back in its sheath and placed her arms on her hips. "Or maybe something more heroic?" She then tried her best to imitate the classic Captain Alderaan stance. She was unable to maintain it long before bursting out into laughter. "Sorry," she said, not really meaning it.

"You'll owe me plenty," she replied with a smirk.
