Nar Shaddaa

Morning comes, for certain definitions of morning. Even after all these years, Arali hasn't gotten used to these 87-hour days. But no matter.

She quietly folds up her blanket; two children sleep in her bed, so she took the floor. Thankfully, Rodian secretions are less severe in children; hopefully, she won't have to replace the sheets. But that's trivial compared to the rest of what happened last night. That the kids are still safe is victory enough.

She sets to work preparing breakfast. Eggs, milk, butter, some of the fungal powder traditional twi'lek cooking uses for flour, toss in a few berries, some odds and ends, and before you know it, there are pancakes frying. Arali even cooks them up in little heart shapes.

If that smell doesn't start waking kids up, then they're really out of it.

Tuuvu leaped out of bed to go retrieve his share of food. "Hooray!" He took a bite. "Nice lady cooks so well, Draya!" The young girl, however, did not get out of bed at all. Still, at least the rodian was devouring his share.

Okay, there is no way Tuuvu leapt about with that much energy and didn't wake Draya.

She heads into the bedroom, plate of pancakes in hand, and sets it on the end table. "Good morning, Draya," Arali says softly. "I know you might not be hungry, but it's important to keep your strength up, okay?"

"Good morning, Arali," she said back. Her voice was enthusiastic, at least relatively so. She pulled the covers off herself and sat up to take her plate. "Thank you." She too took a bite. "Tuuvu has good taste," she remarked with a faint smile.

Arali beams, then gets herself a plate, joining the meal. "I always liked cooking. It's like a science experiment you can eat! Do you do any cooking?"
