Nar Shaddaa

Ashla starts pounding on the door.

He considers ignoring the pounding. He could say he had already been asleep. Or was out. Though anyone with access to the security logs could find out that was a lie in seconds. Besides, it might be an emergency, and he was a doctor. He had a duty.

"Enter."

Niall showed up while Ashla was still pounding. "Oh. Ashla." He gave her a faint smile. "Glad to see you here. I was just coming to see Cole myself."

Hearing the invitation, Niall hesitated, curiously letting Ashla take the lead.

"Oh. What's up Captain Alderaan?" When Cole says enter, Ashla does so. "What the fuck happened?" She immediately starts looking him over.

The room was dark, the only light coming from the two large displays on the desk. “Lights, level one,” and a low illumination, too dim to even qualify as mood lighting, filled the room. Seeing the Captain, Cole pulled himself to his feet and, though he did not grimace or wince, though he pulled himself to attention, it was clear in the way he moved that he was in considerable pain. He salutes.

Even in this low light, his ashen complexion, the sheen of sweat, the glaze of his eyes, is visible. The monitors are showing his own medical file. There's very little of note, a soldier who has been fit and incident-free until now. One image dominates the larger of the displays.

Ashla pushes him back down. "No standing, dumbass." She pushes Cole back down gently. "I don't think Captain is such a formal asshole to make you stand on that leg."

"You too?" Niall murmured dryly as they went in.

Seeing Cole, Niall gave a faint smile again. "Hello, Cole. How are you feeling?" He winces, paling a little at the medical diagrams. "And yes, please, lie down. Doctor's orders." He nodded towards Ashla.

From the displacement of the bone, it appears that the femur had not just been fractured, but that Cole had walked on that leg without so much as a proper splint. Realigning the break is likely going to be a two-person job. Cole's complexion is roughly the colour of a corrupted Sith Lord, and the disconcerting shine to his eyes suggests that he's doped to the gills on the finest opioid analgesics the Republic Navy stocks.

He drops, without complaint, back into the sole chair in the room, but raises a hand to ward the young Togruta off. "Relax, Ashla."

Ashla bats his hands away. "Don't make me tie you up." Ashla looks him in the eyes. "Did you perform surgery on yourself?"

Niall gave an approving nod to the young Togruta. "Go ahead. Treatment first. I don't have anything that can't wait. I mostly came by to check up on him, actually."

"Promises, promises," Cole mutters under his breath. His eyes swim a little before focusing on Ashla, "no. I don't need anything that drastic. I just need to set this," he indicates to his leg, and then to a number of items laid out in an orderly manner on his desk, "and I'll be fine."

"I've already administered an analgesic for the pain, and an anti-inflammatory as a precaution against concussion."

"I'll do what I can for now, but I'll have to come back tomorrow to finish up."

Ashla looks at Niall. "You can talk to him now. Keep him distracted."

OOC: Only one Medicine check per day to remove Crits.

"Let me know if you need an extra pair of hands." Niall murmured softly. "I can do that much, at least."

(OOC: Might as well take a boost die for unskilled assistance. Unless Cole can provide skilled assistance on himself)

Cole grunts to Ashla. "Fine. Don't bother going to the shelter tomorrow. It's not there anymore."

He puts a hand on the back of the chair and moves to get up.

"Sit. Down." Ashla's tone indicated it was not a request. She turns to Niall. "Sure, just hand me the stuff I need."

OOC: I can't make the roll, so there's really nothing to do here. Just fluff.

"Officer Ormont, stay down." Niall said, a note of command entering his otherwise mild voice. "Otherwise, I'm fetching the rope, and Ashla can follow through on her earlier threat."

He sighed. Well, it was pretty much inevitable that he'd issue at least a few orders while here. "Ummm... how are you feeling? And I don't mean the leg, or the head, or anything in-between?"

He stood next to the supplies, passing the 'doctor' whatever she needed.

"Now that's an offer I could accept," Cole raises an eyebrow at the Captain, then his expression falls, "but you'll be pleased to know that you won't need to give orders around here any more. I've relieved myself from duty on medical grounds and submitted my resignation to the Admiral."

A deep breath, "now, if everyone's done panicking, I was just going to get a glass of water."

"The captain or I can get you water. Actually, could you captain? I'm going to have to take off his pants. I'm sure Cole wants his privacy."

Niall moved to get the glass of water instead, politely keeping his back turned while pantsless work was done.

"I recognize that I can't tell you what to do." Niall said slowly. "But I hope you'll reconsider your resignation. You're a good man, Cole. There's still a lot of good you can do here."

Ashla has her own opinion but focuses on the work.

As Cole unfastens his pants, "do I at least have your permission to stand up to take these off, or were you looking for an excuse to cut up a Republic uniform?"

"Just let me help you."

Cole kicks off his boots and carefully gets to his feet, making sure not to put his weight on the injured limb.

Ashla supports him and takes off his pants and then helps Cole sit down slowly. After he sits, she looks for a blanket (and if one is not available, she uses Cole's pants) to cover up Cole's modesty.

"Captain, come here." Ashla then explains what she needs the captain to do.

His expression bland, Niall moves over to assist as directed.
