I had control of Balos in the fight and was using him to attack his partner before losing control... And even with my contingencies and battle tactics Kris lost her leg, and I was only able to take out Balos." He tilted his head. "If he's not a decent symbol for my inefficiencies I don't know what is."

"Wow, you played on his mind to make him attack his companion?" she blurted a brief laugh. "Oh man, now I think he might be the one with a bigger grudge then."

Judging by her voice, she seemed interested in Syl and Balos hashing it out who was the most dishonorable cur in their previous confrontation.

"You know what, how about... I talk to him, and we'll see if you two can work out your differences, hm? For the sake of peace and all that jazz?"

"You almost sound like you've changed your opinion on this peace with the Republic and the Jedi. Who would've thought it..." Shaisha mused.

He tilted his head, "Peace with the Republic has always been a temporary thing which is in our best interest... Being nice to them had its uses... but when it is not in our interests we should not be friendly with them. And for me... Balos is not worth the effort since it's ultimately not going to lead to something fruitful."

He took another bite of his meal, "I didn't think playing nice with the enemy mattered to you at all. But I suppose you've made some ties with people like the doctor and that green thug of a jedi to change how you feel."

"Hm, perhaps," she admitted with a thoughtful tone, leaning back into her chair into a more comfortable position.

"Though on the whole, I am starting to look more past such outdated thoughts as Jedi and Sith, and instead look at people with potential - those who are capable of becoming something more, something greater. Those who can rise above the mediocrity that too many find themselves in. It is my intention to try and gather more of such individuals, and there are some who interest me, but I must first find out where their potentials lie."

"The Dark Side has always been the strongest," she smirked confidently, "and it makes me stronger as well."

"I'm just starting to realise how the indoctrination of Jedi and Sith philosophy isn't doing anyone any favours. I am past looking to words for guidance of how I will shape my own destiny." Her words had an intensity that was more than she had shown before, as if the events of Nar Shaddaa had made her rise from the ashes like a mythical bird, remade and stronger.

"I'd say it's more that I've realised I am not locked down by anyone, despite various attempts of others to force me into certain roles. My father was convinced that I would fail in my quest, but I see now that it's because he is unable to foresee my future - because I've realised that only I have the power to shape it and decide what it will be."

Shaisha's eyes met Sylvain's as he looked at her. The golden hue of her eyes seemed brighter and stronger.

How weird it was to think that both Kristal and Sylvain, the two who had had such perfect happy families when they were growing up, which she admit she had hated and envied, were now in the same situation as her.

Well, with one exception to Kristal, seeing as how her mother would be welcomed back into the Empire now following Baras' statement.

Not that Shaisha had any idea what Sylvain's meeting had been like, but she already had theories of her own. "It allows him to lock you in further by not outing your family's name in relation to a known terrorist. So yes, your gains are minimal there, and his actions has also given Magpie plenty of room to move in, sadly. She'll probably be back again."

"Urgh... that means more work for me in the future."
