Nar Shaddaa

Sylvain arose early in the pseudo-morning and went for a walk to wake himself up. The events of the previous day still ran circles through his brain as he sought for an answer to the riddles in front of him. Sylvain found a public garden near the Republic compound and knelt in front of a bench tucked away in a corner of the park. He sought to soothe the wild and unruly parts of his mind and focus on finding the most logical and practical answer to his conundrum. Focusing hard on controlling his mind he was able to push aside much of the confusion and begin to think on the issue from a place of serenity and calm logic.

D3 Feel the Force EM Fluff: 1eF 2 Light Side

The rain makes the walk less than enjoyable, the force on Nar Shaddaa feels twisted and torn between the highs and lows of the light and dark. There are secrets here, but that seems obvious.

Across form where he is trying to sort his mind is a little cafe that serves kaff and tea, an upscale place with charm and grace. Inside he can spy a Jedi having a morning sip of kaff.

Sylvain opened his eyes and saw the Jedi sipping at her kaff. Wiping off some of the rain that collected on his face he stood up and tried again to reach out sense the powerful energy of the force around him, using the sound of the rain on his ears to drown out the noise of the city.

"Is this a new dark side ritual I was not aware of Sith... it seems unusual for a student of Baras but then again he has always been unpredictable," a male voice says from the shadows of an alley.

Sylvain Torsin opened his eyes and looked at the man who was speaking to him calmly, "Even Sith have to ponder things sometimes.... Master Karr." He recognized the face from the intelligence report.

"Baras still remembers my name, not sure if I should be honored or disturbed. Since you know my name, we can skip the pleasantries. Have you found what you were looking?" Master Karr asks.

"A bit. Still more to do, but it is a start." He replied.

"Any reason a man like yourself would have interest enough to know me by sight?"

"Baras and I have a long history and I make it my business to keep tabs on his apprentices and agents that I discover. You are a new piece on the field, well newer... so I make sure to learn what I can," Master Karr responds.

"Yet I sense your mind is not as focused as it should be. You're at a crossroads."

"In a sense." He nodded.

"I think there are many such times in our lives... when several things come to a head at once. The force moves mysteriously at times... and provides clear choices at others."

"The choices ahead of you are not easy, young Sith. Each branch will shut many doors and opens others, hopefully those doors are ones you want opened," Master Karr says to Sylvain.

"You make it sound as if you know the paths in front of me." He replied.

"I am not that prescient, only that you have hard choices ahead. What they are or even what you should is your own," he responds.

"It is the only true freedom any of us really have."

He nods, "True enough. Tell me fine sir... what you think of your long time enemy."

"I respect his tenacity, I do not respect much else. I do not underestimate him either, or at least I try not to. Baras never comes at a problem from the angle you expect. Everything is pre-meditated," he says after a moment of thought.

"His calm and collected nature is his greatest gift. Of course he may only want us to think he has such qualities."

Sylvain nodded, "Did you ever have the chance to speak with him?"

"Many occasions actually, we could have been friends in a different life," Master Karr said.

He chuckled, "Friends? I find that difficult to believe."

"Why do you say that, because Baras is an inscrutable monster?" Master Karr says with a calm but probing look.

He smiled, "He is not a very forthcoming individual."

"No, he isn't," Master Karr says.

"But there was a time he was young once, he had... friends. Age and ambition have a way of altering courses. Changing us. With age comes scars, and those scars add up. Turns a child wide eyed with wonder into a monster shrouded in darkness."

"Do you know of his story at all? What happened to these friends?"

"Some died... some betrayed him... it's the classic Sith story as I understand it," he says.

"There was one, Faine Varu, well you should ask him yourself about that one. I doubt I can do the story justice."

"Faine Varu. I will have to ask..." He said. He sat there another moment unsure what to say to the Jedi.

"It should be an illuminating response," the Master Jedi says before adding, "Good luck with your master, Sith."

He turns and heads down the street unless stopped.

He nods his head and watches the Jedi go... less sure of what do to than before.
