"Yeah?" He asked hypothetically as he leant back in his seat. "That's good, as I get the feeling that it'll be pretty difficult to keep touch with everyone, peace or not. Nobles probably have a good way being forgetful, you know? He seems to take the death of his sister pretty easily if he's willing to have a trial over it. Why risk it when he might have a chance to go free? Unless you rig the thing and want bragging rights."

Shaisha shrugged. "Beats me. He'll probably get convicted since the situation seemd very solid on that front, but why waste time and resources on shits like that, huh? That's what I'll never understand about these Republic-people."

She stretched her arms over her head a few seconds before settling back in her seat. "We lock up people too, but that's people who can still be potentially useful at some point. That's fine. But sloppy hitmen who can't even shoot straight and kills at least one noble? Would be dead before you could say 'community service'. Their quest for fairness and justice just ends up cushioning those who should be brought to justice. From what I hear, there are plenty of gangs and criminal circles on Coruscant... but have you really heard of anything like that on Dromund Kaas?"

Vec thought a little more on this than he had to, wondering if the whole thing was also a ploy to get a promotion. Noble and high-ups lived on their reputation and public deeds and you don't exactly get much for killing a man in the streets, save for whatever was in his pockets.

He gave a skeptical shake of his head. "No, but I don't doubt they're around. If there are any, they're smarter and know where to hide as vermin tend to be. There's always more around. If not in the corners of the room, they're in the walls themselves. Even if you managed to get rid of those, there are those below your feet. None of them fear death, unfortunately, as they would likely be dead if they didn't do the things they did."

The young woman nodded, seemingly pleased with his response. "One can never completely eradicate vermin, sadly. But it's certainly possible to cull and control the infestation. Yet these Republic worlds allow themselves to be chained to mediocrity and inaction, rather than assert themselves to reach for their full potentials, when they give such passes to lawbreakers."

She chuckled briefly and shook her head. "Apologies, I must sound like I'm preaching now."

He gave a small wave of his hand. "Nah, I wouldn't sweat it. I'm not offended. Actually, someone should say it and especially while we're here. If anyone else was looking at this from the outside, they'll think that the Empire and the Republic were getting along pretty well, despite our differences. Don't know how many parties more I'll have to attend like the one yesterday, but I'm going to start thinking we're actually friends if this keeps up."

Her laugh is sincere. "Well said. Let me buy you your next round."

Shaisha waved to the server, indicating she'd be buying a new round to her company.

"There will probably be opportunities to drag them down over the next days... more cloak and dagger style, I imagine, but they will be there. Just gotta keep an eye open for the possibilities, sergeant."

"Much appreciated," he smirked before he downed his glass, which didn't take much to drain it down to the last bits of melting ice. "I'm not going to refuse a free drink, especially when it's from a Sith Lady."

"I'm sure you'll spot them more by hanging around them than waiting for some tidbit to make the news. Don't know if I could see one of them I could potentially be buddy-buddies with. Most of them are nobles, officers or Jedi. Hard to find a common ground when everyone is so damn optimistic too. Now that I think of it, the two docs from last night seem heavily interested that you're a Sith, like they were some sort of tourists."

A new drink was ordered for Vec, though she passed on the refill herself. She'd have the chance to drink a lot more later.

"Hm, yes, I suppose you're right about that. The Petty Officer was for some reason super-interested in doing medical scans... so I guess neither of them had seen a pureblooded sith in the flesh before," she shrugged slightly, considering that in the Empire she was feared and/or revered, rather than being looked at like a curiosity.

"There are probably some lower-ranked military there you might chat up with... but failing that, plenty of guns for hire around here," her hands gestured to their general surroundings, as they were after all in a place favoured by the Mandalorians, "who might be more entertaining than the 'pubs."

"As much as I've found this chat to be interesting, there are other matters I need to see. Feel free to contact me if anything comes up that you think could a Sith's touch, sergeant. Enjoy your drink."

"Sounds like an excuse to get close to you," he murmured with a hint of humour. "I'd watch those two in case they have other ideas on their minds."

"I'm sure I'll find some way to keep myself busy off-duty. If all else fails, you're right about the locals. Mind you, they might be harder to figure out than the Republic. Don't know if I'm looking for that sort of trouble. Anyway, don't let me keep you. I'll see you around, Lady Shaisha." He gave her a nod with something of an informal salute as she prepared to make her leave.
