[Day 0 - LA] Peaceful Retreat

[Yslane Tssilla]

"I understand Master Shan, but its still frustrating." Yslane sighs, "Hopefully this summit will see everything become more clear."

"What does the Force show you now Master Shan? The future seems so cloudy."

[Satele Shan]

"The future is... unknowable. Jedi can grasp it.... even the Sith, but any future is fragile and easily swayed by the now. What I feel is that we will do our best to serve the needs and interests of the Republic," she offers to the woman.

[Yslane Tssilla]

"...I suppose an easy answer would diminish the journey." Yslane smiles at that, "May I ask what you were meditating on before I arrived?"

[Satele Shan]

She thought of her young son and things... left unsaid and then says, "Jedi make mistakes, you seem to feel we are perfect. Hardly. We are people and we are fallible, we can be very wrong. I think on my past mistakes and I contemplate the ones I am sure to make in the future."

[Yslane Tssilla]

"I don't think we are perfect." Yslane frowns, "But the Republic looks to us for guidance, for hope..."

"I guess it best to say I worry the Jedi can not afford to make too many mistakes." She wilts a little, "Forgive me that was a bit out of turn. The Order can only do the best it can and hope that is enough."

[Satele Shan]

"The best learning comes from mistakes, but I understand your sentiment," she says.

[Yslane Tssilla]

"...I'll keep that in mind Master Shan," Yslane's nervous smile returned, "I mean even with my small part in all of this."

"Have you worked with the noble Senator from Mon Calamari before? He has a great responsibility resting on his shoulders here."

[Satele Shan]

"On occasion, more than acquaintances but less than friends. I have a great deal of respect for him and his record is impressive," she says.

"A politician but remarkably... clean."

[Yslane Tssilla]

"Government work never leaves a man wholly clean. But I am happy to hear your opinion of him."

"...might I ask what your thoughts on justice are? Is it better to take each circumstance separately or is it more important that rulings be consistent? ...Is the thief who stills food to live deserving of the same punishment as the thief who steals to enrich himself?"

[Satele Shan]

"I don't know when I was younger I would have had the answer. Now I don't know there are merits to both lines of thought. I would probably take each situation with thought now, weigh the situation carefully. If we reduce people to numbers and circumstances... no, we have to look at the people. Justice is about helping people, the wrong and the wronged," she says.

"If we can help that person leave the life of crime, then we have helped his future victims as well himself."

[Yslane Tssilla]

"I'll have to reflect on that Master Shan," Yslane dips her head in an appreciative bow, "In my dealings, limited as they are...the Foreign Office isn't often called on to pass judgement on people." She chuckled softly.

[Satele Shan]

"Passing judgement is a great responsibility," she says solemnly.

"It is a heavy burden."

[Yslane Tssilla]

"Sorry Master Shan...it was more of a jest than a serious statement," Yslane said, "I take it you have had to do so more then you would like? Pass judgement I mean."

[Satele Shan]

"Yes, but it comes with the responsibility of being a Jedi. People entrust us with great responsibility," she replies.

"No two Jedi handle that responsibility the same way, it is a personal journey to reconcile our choices with the Code."

[Yslane Tssilla]

"The strength of the Jedi Order is this diversity? Or one of its strengths at any rate?"

[Satele Shan]

"The strength of the Jedi Order is this diversity? Or one of its strengths at any rate?"

"Diversity is the strength of any organization, we celebrate these differences as they keep the zjedi order from growing too... staid and stagnant. We have our predictable qualities of course," she says with a light laugh and shake of her head at some unsaid joke.

"We embrace change... just not as quickly as some would like."

[Yslane Tssilla]

"Well...I mean yes..." Yslane nodded quickly, "And I suppose we do." She sighs and runs a hand through her hair. "Knowing what those qualities are would help..."

"Not as quickly as some would like?"

[Satele Shan]

"We are a large organization, we are not nimble and not adept at quick changes. Some want things to change yesterday, Jedi in general prefer a more measured approach. In this we are probably similar to the Sith, for all their... bluster they do not change quickly either," Satele says with mild amusement.

[Yslane Tssilla]

"Some things are universal I suppose." Yslane shrugs, "A pity the Sith do not share some of the Jedi's more egalitarian views."

[Satele Shan]

"There are many things I pity about the Sith," she says honestly.

"They are self destructive to the core, focused on violence and deception to their own detriment. It is common practice for a student to slay their own Master, they believe it preserves strength."

[Yslane Tssilla]

"The desire for might blinds them to the value of those perceived as weaker." Yslane frowns, "How many thinkers, poets, and even warriors have been extinguished by the ambitions of their own? In truth Master Shan I wish they would continue to devour their own and leave us alone."

"If their malice burned only themselves instead of the free peoples, and those who suffer under their yoke, wouldn't the galaxy be better?"

[Satele Shan]

"Suffering is suffering. Perhaps it would be better, I don't know," she says honestly.

"The history of the Sith and Jedi is a complicated and tragic one."

[Yslane Tssilla]

"To think that two so divergent paths sprang from the same source." She mused softly.

[Satele Shan]

"No different than the path two siblings make take in life," she says thoughtfully.

"It does make you think, though."

[Yslane Tssilla]

"Or what path oneself might have taken...had circumstances been different." She nods, "I would prefer to think that no siblings of mine would come back wanting to kill me and my friends though."
