I make a lot of it up as I go along... I really should name Zane's mom, and his siblings at some point.
Cole is the stereotypical nerd-type, slender and lanky. His curly blonde hair never looks tidy, no matter what he does with it, this isn’t helped by his habit of running his fingers through his hair with annoying frequency. If he wore glasses, he’d be the type who was always pushing them up the bridge of his nose. He wears a field uniform, rather than a tailored officer’s uniform, and it always looks slightly rumpled. His medpack is never far from hand, and he favours a utility belt that has all of his most commonly used implements and medications arranged for quick access.
Cole was born on a Naval Medical Frigate, growing up as a Navy brat; he and his mother following his father from assignment to assignment. Cole’s father and grandfather had been raised in military tradition and were strict men. Cole always referred to his cold and distant father as sir. At the age of 16, filled with typical teenage rebellion, Cole started dating a boy he went to school with. When he was caught by his father, the Commander threatened to disown his only child unless he enlisted in the Galactic Republic Navy (Obligation: Dutybound).
Cole proved to be a poor soldier, and was about to wash out of Basic Training when the Commander pulled some strings to have Cole put on the track for Naval Intelligence. Seeing medicine as the only path that didn’t - directly or indirectly - lead to combat, he instead undertook seven years of medical training (Background: Galactic Professional).
He is now a Petty Officer, the promotion track having been slowed considerably for him by the length of time spent in surgical training, and his father is a Group Commander nearing retirement. It is likely that being the son of Group Commander Ormont was the the primary, if not the sole reason for Cole’s assignment to Nar Shaddaa.
Between the timidity of his mother and the overbearingness of his father, Cole is naturally timid and downright fearful of physical confrontation. This conflict-avoidance extends to most forms of competition, which tends to trigger moderate to high anxiety. This includes such things as gambling and competitive sports. He has a mild, but undiagnosed, anxiety disorder (Emotional Weakness: Fear).
He is, however, highly compassionate, and sees his medical career as a valuable means to help people (Emotional Strength: Compassion). However, he is not above using any means at his disposal: negotiation, coercion, charm, or even deception, in the pursuit of providing the best medical treatment to the most difficult of patients.
