[Layne Hoshin]

She shrugged. "We were at the academy together. I always thought he was the silent type."

[Cole Ormont]

Abruptly, as if remembering something forgotten. "Layne, your name was mentioned to me by Captain Organa. I wonder if I might enlist your aid with something?"

[Layne Hoshin]

"Depends on what it is," she said.

[Cole Ormont]

"I understand that you've been looking into the matter of force-sensitive children going missing?" He ran a hand through his hair and adjusted a pants leg, "I'm not certain how much you know already, but the children are on a freighter, and that freighter is scheduled for departure today."

"We cannot allow that freighter to leave, not with the children aboard, at least. Would you be willing to work with Captain Organa to extract the children? We have only a matter of hours to act, we would welcome all the assistance we can get."

[Layne Hoshin]

"Oh yes, the poor children."

It was probably the case that she was being sarcastic.

"I'm willing. Though I don't suppose I'm getting paid."

[Cole Ormont]

Cole raised an eyebrow, "paid? Was someone paying you to look into the matter?"

[Layne Hoshin]

"Maybe," she answered. "I have expenses you know."

[Cole Ormont]

One side of Cole's mouth curled, "I see. Of course, we all have bills to pay, and I have been providing your medical care without charge. As I see it, I can continue to look out for your medical wellbeing, and you can undertake this one task. I believe you're getting the better part of this bargain."

[Layne Hoshin]

Goddamnit, he had a point. She should have thought twice before using that argument.

"Fine, whatever. Count me in."

[Cole Ormont]

"Try not to take it too hard. Who knows, maybe you'll find there's some satisfaction in saving twenty-two young lives."

He ran his hand through his blonde curls, "Captain Organa will be in touch later this morning. We need to act as quickly as possible. And Layne?" he paused a moment, "it might not be worth much, but you have my gratitude."

[Layne Hoshin]

"Yeah yeah," she said, "I've saved people before you know."

[Cole Ormont]

"Good, then you've had some practice. If I don't see you after the mission, I'll be here again tomorrow. I'd like to give you another check up."

[Layne Hoshin]

"Yeah, okay."

She got up then, gave Cole a nod, before turning to leave.
