Checking Up (D2 MM - Cole's room)

[Cole Ormont]

"Never expected anything less, sir. But there are worse things than dishonour on Nar Shaddaa."

[Niall Organa]

"Oh?" Niall said, frowning. He waved a hand, gesturing for him to go on. "I admit, I can't think of anything that doesn't also involve dishonor. Except perhaps death." His lips twisted. "I don't necessarily feel that one must accept the one before the other, depending on circumstances."

[Cole Ormont]

Running a hand through his hair, he watched the Captain's mouth twist.

"You're thinking in a straight line. You don't need to intentionally do something dishonourable to land yourself a court martial. Hell, you don't need to do anything at all to get the blame. And don't pretend that Shaisha'll be the one left holding the bag when the shit comes down, whatever you think you're agreeing to."

[Niall Organa]

Niall sighed, his eyes rolling upwards, although the corners of his lips twitched upwards as well. "Very well. I promise that I'll make sure to consider all the angles before doing anything that she asks of me, to ensure that I'm not aiding some Sith plot. Just as I promise to drink plenty of fluids, and to continue my breathing exercises another two weeks. Cross my apparently fully functional heart." His gaze went back down to Cole's. "Is that satisfactory, doctor?" He said, a hint of a smile definitely on his lips.

Fine, make fun of me if you must, unlike the Captain, Cole's expression does not shift, though his eyes linger on the man's teasing smile before meeting his gaze. He runs a hand through his hair, "with all due respect, you asked my opinion, sir. I'd take it pretty personally if you wind up leaving Nar Shaddaa in a kolto tank."

[Niall Organa]

"Believe me, that's one of the last things I want to do, too." Niall said, his tone mild. Again, the slight smile. "I suppose I appreciate the sentiment. But I assure you that, all evidence to the contrary, I can take care of myself. Well, perhaps with a bit of help from friends." He added, somewhat contradicting himself.

[Cole Ormont]

For the first time since the Captain had arrived, Cole's expression softens. "I never doubted it, sir.

[Niall Organa]

Another twitch of the lips. "Good."

Niall came to his feet, rising to his full height. "Well, then. Is there anything is, whether advice or impressions? Or should I just expect to see you at the Huttball game this afternoon?" It was a bit difficult to tell from his tone and expression if he was being entirely serious or not.

[Cole Ormont]

Cole had never been any good at reading people, it was a big part of why he worked so hard to keep anything from showing in his expression; to let people see in when he couldn't do the same was like giving up too much power.

When the Captain stood, Cole came to attention, a scant two inches shorter, but similar in build to the soldier. "Nothing further, sir. My door is always open, doesn't just have to be medical matters." His hand goes through his curls, "I'll be at the huttball game. Let me know if I'm needed for the talks this afternoon."

[Niall Organa]

Niall's eyebrows went up, a pleased expression. "Likewise. That's quite nearly the phrase I like to use, as well. An open door policy, I call it. Feel free to stop by anytime."

He began to turn towards the door, but turned back at the mention of the talks. "Hmmm. We just may at that. You're a fully licensed medical professional. I believe your file said that your education was first rate. Do you think it's broad enough for what we'll need?"

"I was pegged to go into Intelligence, sir, before I choose a medical career," does that file also show that I was about to wash out of Basic? "I'd like to think I will do the Republic and the Navy proud, sir."

[Niall Organa]

"Very interesting." Niall said, his eyebrows going up. He gave a tiny nod of approval at Cole's words as well.

"Officer Ormont. If I didn't trust your abilities, and your opinion, I wouldn't have come here today. You want to do the Republic proud? I have no doubt that you will." He gave the man a smile and a nod. "I'll put in a recommendation with my superiors, both for today's assignment, and for the future."

Cole's stomach flutters, but he manages to keep himself from smiling. "I trust it goes without saying both that you don't need to do that, and that it's appreciated, sir." He salutes crisply.

[Niall Organa]

Niall smiled then. It would be a slight smile by most people's standards, but Captain Niall Organa only smiled in front of friends.

"It would be my pleasure, Officer Ormont." Niall returned the salute. "I suppose that makes several times that I'll be seeing you today, then. I'm also expected to do my part in the talks. And at huttball, of course." He smiled again. "Until then, I suppose?"

Before he realises what he's saying, "I look forward to it," and he was. Cole swings his arms behind his back and clasps one wrist in the opposite hand, shifting his weight to bring his feet shoulder-width apart.

With a last nod of acknowledgement, Niall left, the door sliding shut behind him.
