Morning Doctor (D2 MM)

[Alysele Cortess]

"Thanks?" Aly seemed genuinely surprised. "Bought a ship, and became a slave... wow. That is some rough luck." She pondered for a moment. "I was taken by the Jedi when I was eight. They came one day, tested me, took me away the next day. No one objected. My engagement was called off."

Surely Ashla could relate to such a cruel fate?

[Ashla Vyliis]

Strangely, she could. "I was twelve when they took my father from me. I know it's not exactly the same, but family is important. At least, you'll be able to see yours again someday." Ashla felt some pity. She's pretty sure that her dad would have died to stop the Jedi from taking her. Alysele's family just stood. What bastards.

[Alysele Cortess]

Alysele's smile was a bitter one. "I can understand...." she debated reaching out to the alien, but decided against it. They weren't that close. "Any idea where you want to try your hand then? At being a... medical hobbyist?"

[Ashla Vyliis]

Ashla shrugs. "Right now, I'm more focused on surviving my training. I'll just play it by ear." Ashla shrugs. "Maybe I'll do something crazy and get a medical license." There was a little distaste in her voice.

[Alysele Cortess]

"It can be... well, bad." She shrugged, not sugarcoating it. "But it's survivable. Living testament here. You trained on Coruscant?"

[Ashla Vyliis]

"Yeah. I've been training on Corsucant. This is the first time I got off the world since my 'recruitment.' But I'm not worried about the training itself. I'm concerned that the Jedi Council or Master Maaka will decide I'm more trouble than I'm worth."

[Alysele Cortess]

"Have you met Big Burly?" The 7 feet tall droid was well known as the bane of the lightsaber classes, usually reserved as punishment by some masters.

"Well... I am sure the Jedi will give you some patience. They are fond of sitting and making decisions over others though."

[Ashla Vyliis]

Ashla rubs her head in memory. "Yes. I faced him once or twice. Master Maaka said it would help me learn quicker." Punishment? What the Hell did I do to deserve.... I see now. "Did you fave him much?"

[Alysele Cortess]

"Roughly after my third week of training. I was told a true duelist learns through adversity." Her tone indicated she didn't care for it. "I did learn the value of reach."

[Ashla Vyliis]

"Oh. So, adversity can teach you to swing giant laser swords, but not medicine." Ashla truly finds the differences between the two absurd. "Well, I learned the value of not getting hit in the face. It seems to work for me." Ashla gets curious. "Was that before or after you decided to focus on dueling?"

[Alysele Cortess]

"The Force works in mysterious ways." Replied Aly in a mock serious voice.

"That is a sound lesson. I'd also avoid hits to the kidney. Hurts like a Wookie's rage."

She looked up at the ceiling as she recalled. "It wasn't so much choosing... my master is a duelist, so it seemed natural to start with that. It was also an outlet for me... but no, it was before. I barely had the saber basics down."

[Ashla Vyliis]

Tsk. Maybe Maaka isn't so bad. "I see. Is it common for Masters to try to mold their padawans into what they are? Or did yours just see your potential?"

[Alysele Cortess]

Alysele shrugged. "I am not sure. He taught me the basics, and I had the talent for it. It rolled from there." She glanced down at the floor. "I'm good at it, and I enjoy it. It's one of the good things that came out of... everything."

[Ashla Vyliis]

"Is that all being a Jedi is worth to you?" Ashla isn't judgmental. She seems genuinely curious.

[Alysele Cortess]

"I...." she frowned. "I don't know." She shrugged. "The Jedi can do good, but... I don't know. In war, it all seems simple and complicated at the same time. I appreciate the training I got, but I feel this isn't my place?" She let out a breath. "But apparently I'm young and impatient, and the Force works in mysterious ways."

[Ashla Vyliis]

"Where do you think your place is?" Again. Curious. For her part, Ashla found her place.

[Alysele Cortess]

"I.. " she wanted to answer confidently, to reply with a surety that would impress her cohort.... but she couldn't. "I don't know." She shrugged. "Through my life, it has been impressed upon me what is expected, how my life will turn out, what I will do.. and for a while I thought I knew. Now? I don't know. Trying to find it."

[Ashla Vyliis]

Ashla shrugs. "I know the feeling. I didn't know what I wanted until the day Kidaja got sick. Albeit, I was a slave then, so what I wanted didn't really matter. But I get what you're talking about."
