Intelligent Breakfast Talk (D3, MM Syl's Room)

[Col. Hala Moraal]

"Ah, of course. My apologies, I do my best to remain agnostic to the politics of the Dark Council. It can give me a bit of a blind spot in that regard," she said, offering him an apologetic smile.

[Sylvain Torsin]

He waved his hand, "Ultimately I do not think it will matter. I am here to serve, so as long as Xevious is striving for peace, I will be a tool for his use. In the end, that is what he desires."

[Col. Hala Moraal]

"I serve the Empire, so I will do as I am commanded to execute policy in benefit and in service to it," she agreed.

[Sylvain Torsin]

He smiled, "Then we are of the same accord."

He then took a bite of his breakfast, "So who is Colonel Hala Moraal? Where does she come from?"

[Col. Hala Moraal]

"Colonel Moraal comes from Dromond Kass," Hala said with the same half smile on her face.

"Her parents were space port administrators, she felt an obligation to serve in a greater capacity than just taking over for her parents when they wished to retire so she joined the Imperial Academy. Given her comfort with ships and shipboard life, she was assigned to the Navy as a marine rather than the Army where she served with distinction until a tragic accident ruined what would have been an otherwise bright career as a field officer. She was instead given a promotion, a medal, and a desk job, and she's been serving from that desk ever since."

Her eyes flashed with silent amusement and she added, "It's all there in my service jacket, my lord."

[Sylvain Torsin]

He smiled, "And I suppose that's the only story I'll get."

[Col. Hala Moraal]

She echoed his with a sly version of her own.

"Don't worry my lord. There are no new stories anymore, only different characters filling them. The last book you read likely shared it's arc with many others, all tracing back to a common ancestor."

[Sylvain Torsin]

He chuckled, "So in the future you won't just up and disappear when you're needed?"

[Col. Hala Moraal]

"I always try to be where I am needed my lord, or where I am sent. If I am not where you need me, I will ask your pardon in that case, because I expect I will be elsewhere and still needed there," she said, her face taking on an apologetic demeanor.

[Sylvain Torsin]

He smiled, "There is no need to apologize. I meant needed by your own superiors... though perhaps there will be opportunity in the future for me to become your superior... never know."

[Col. Hala Moraal]

"These things are a bit complicated, but I have no doubt it is possible if you truly wished it and spent time and political capital to achieve it."

[Sylvain Torsin]

He chuckled, "A very diplomatic answer. I see why they sent you."

[Col. Hala Moraal]

"Thank you my lord," she said with a nod.

[Sylvain Torsin]

He smiled and nodded his head, "Well is there anything else I can do for you today Colonel?"

[Col. Hala Moraal]

"Just please keep me in mind if there is anything I may do to help. I may not be as talented at the direct project of violence as some of your peers, nor as well as I used to, but I know other ways to express the will of the Empire beyond saber and blaster. Not that you do not... more that you are not alone in this," she said with a grateful nod.

"Thank you for breakfast. It has been a while since I have had food that takes like home."

[Sylvain Torsin]

"I'm glad I could bring that taste to you then. We will be in contact Colonel." He said with a military nod and a slight smile.

[Col. Hala Moraal]

"My lord," she said, returning his with a deferential nod of her own. She rose, picking up her cap, and moved to the doorway. She keyed for it to open, stepped into the corridor, and made her way down it as the sound of her boot heels clicking against the durasteel floors faded into silence.
