[D2 EE] A Lesson in Futility

[Vec Gunnar]

"Yeah, only in my wildest dreams. A shame a face like mine can never rack up enough tips..." he managed to say while keeping the straightest face and the driest tone. "Nah, but knowing my luck, that's what I'm going to be ending up with."

[Zeno Deathwright]

"I certainly hope you never end up with a commander that would waste skills like that. Can't imagine the torture that would be," he says with a small grin.

[Vec Gunnar]

He raised a brow at the Sith, "Oh, heck no. I wasn't talking about being assigned to washing the dishes. I don't have it that bad. Commanders know I'm reliable, beneath them, but reliable. I was more talking about finding some side action around here, as you brought up earlier."

[Zeno Deathwright]

"Well, there's always a lot going on around here. Always stuff to do on Nar Shaddaa... from bounties to protection to favors for hutts," he replies. "If you like I can keep you in mind if see something that comes up."

[Vec Gunnar]

"Sure," he said with a cautious tone. "Personally, I'd rather not tangle around with hutts, for otherwise or favours. They have ways of getting under your skin. Then again, I'm reckon everything here down to the tiny dust specs are connected to a hutt."

[Zeno Deathwright]

"Pretty much, but if you have someone between, it's not so bad to deal with them."

[Vec Gunnar]

He crossed his arms together and raised a brow, "Is that how you've been managing? With an alias or some paid jawa running going back and forth?"

[Zeno Deathwright]

"Nah. I just know that's how a lot of people prefer to do so, and it's likely how the vast majority of Hutts interact with each other. I'm not overly worried about it myself. If they screw with me I'll cut them down, and maybe their thugs will kill me, but not before I get them. And that will be a hard lesson for the other hutts, so they know not to screw with a Sith. I'm sure they've seen similar lessons before," he replies with a grin.

[Vec Gunnar]

He nodded at his direction. "Best of luck you never needing to be a teacher. With the number of lessons happening daily, you'd think many of them would stick by now. I think people have trouble keeping track of all the things not to do in this galaxy. Maybe if one crosses you, it ain't because they're just forgetful. Not when it comes to dealing with a Sith, I reckon."

[Zeno Deathwright]

"I'm sure I'll be fine," he says with a shrug. "I seem to be on decent terms with Nem'ro with the job I did for him and my master. What do you usually do to relax then, or do you just always go on patrol even when not on duty?"

[Vec Gunnar]

"I'm human, my lord," he said simply. "Even I can't keep working even if I wanted to. Nah, I ain't on patrol now. Just checking the city out, getting a sense of the angles and the going-ons around here, you know? When I'm not doing that, you'll find me at a cantina with a good cup of something alcoholic. Around here, looks like I'll be having the good stuff instead of the usual brew that gets cooked up in the basin of a refresher. I just hope I don't get used to it."

"The trick is to get a stockpile of the good stuff. Keep bottles of the good stuff around, and stock them up. Have people smuggle them to you when you don't have access," he replies with a smile.

[Vec Gunnar]

"That's an option," he said knowingly. Whether or not he had exercised that option wasn't going to be something he was going to share openly with an acquaintance. "Still, expensive tastes does come with a price of its own. You can't easily switch from the good stuff to cheap swill. I'll be sure to not get heartbroken."

[Zeno Deathwright]

"Makes it easier if you have friends that can move things around easily," he says with a smile. "I can do that in a limited capacity now, and my influence over my family will only grow with time."

[Vec Gunnar]

He gave a shrug, "Well, I personally like to keep my debts at a minimum. I'm terrible at accounting and it keeps my conscience clear, so to speak. Friends just allow for a debt extension but they still have a price."

[Zeno Deathwright]

"Sounds like you have the wrong friends. How much do you know of the Deathwrights?" he asks, curious if he knew much of the elite fighter pilot noble family.

[Vec Gunnar]

"I'm a bit ignorant when it comes to people and reputations. I can't say I know all that much of them," he said in response, opening the avenue if he wished to share more.

[Zeno Deathwright]

"Even in training, we learn to give all for the family and the Empire. There is no extension of debts because there are no debts. We live and die for our service. Mine is unique, of course, as a Sith. But I imagine you'd be hard pressed to find a Sith that would die for a non-Sith outside of our family," he says.

[Vec Gunnar]

"Is that right?" He sounded a touch skeptical, it would probably more convincing to see it in practice than in words. "Here I thought the Sith were more something of an exclusive club, which is fair. Most of you run the show and we're happily along for the ride. I'll keep that bit of honour in mind."

[Zeno Deathwright]

"Most Sith are like that, but I am a Deathwright before I am a Sith."

[Vec Gunnar]

So to you, family is thicker than the Force then? Vec thought to himself but thought it had an awkward ring to it to say it in front of Zeno or any Sith. The Deathwrights, hm?

He dusted his hands off, "Well, I think I might have taken enough of your time, my lord. I see that everything here is not exploding, which is a plus, yeah? I'll be on my way. Have yourself a good evening now."

[Zeno Deathwright]

"You too Vec. And I'm not much for ceremony. You can call me Zeno," he replies with a nod.

[Vec Gunnar]

"Zeno," he repeated with an informal salute and then turned, retracing his steps back to the Imperial compound.
