(D3 ME) Into Oblivion

[Nekoinu]

A pause. "Alright. Your overall... Appearance matches a Sith. But as you can see, we are not in the best spot. We can't sell her anything right now."

[Layne Hoshin]

Part of her tried to detect if the voice was a familiar one. The other part took another glance around before turning back to the camera.

"Communicating like this will not do. Show yourselves, so we can verify the state of things."

[Nekoinu]

The voice may have been familiar from the last bits of her time with the Jaw of Oblivion. "Alright. I'm going to send one guy out there to assess you. If you would so kindly let him to do so."

Orion Ordonna, Szar'tek's oldest friend on the crew, stepped out with his blaster rifle in hand. He looked and peered at Layne and then his eyes widened. "Shit, is that you? Layne? You became a Sith?" He kept his distance for now though did not raise his weapon. "Who would have thought?"

[Layne Hoshin]

And on flipped her darksaber; which would surely have been terrifying as shit even if it had been a normal lightsaber. She did not advance, but it was obvious she wasn't happy to see someone from the crew that had enslaved her.

"Start talking," she demanded. "Why the fuck are you guys here. What the fuck are you doing with Haydriss. And what the fuck is *she* doing with whoever you're selling to her."

Rumun would surely have gotten the distinct impression she was including him in that last question.

[Rumun Gol]

Well, this has become even more complex now. Rumun liked it.

'' Hmm, Lord Haydriss is using the slaves for research the nature of the Darkside. '' He said calmly to Layne. That was the truth.

[Layne Hoshin]

"You're going to have to be more specific than that."

[Nekoinu]

"Riiiiiight. Well, this puts me in an awkward spot doesn't it?" Orion shook his head. "We sell here, Layne. And whatever she does is her business."

[Rumun Gol]

Rumun was still looking at the slaver, just in case. '' She's trying to discover a way to revive people by using the darkside, channeling life force. '' Again, this was the truth.

[Layne Hoshin]

"Shut up," she pointed the lightsaber at Orion for a brief moment. "You're scum and you should consider yourself lucky I haven't gotten around to deciding whether to kill you yet."

And then she turned back to Rumun. "So, she kills them, then tries to resurrect them. What a fucking tool. And your place in all of this, is?"

[Rumun Gol]

'' She asked me to help her with her research.'' Rumun said calmly. He was fascinated by Layne's reaction. He knew about her former slave status, same as him. Perhaps she felt attachment to these beings? Love? Pity?

[Layne Hoshin]

She narrowed her eyes at the alien, then turned back to Orion.

"I suppose I should've expected something like this. How many have you sold to her so far?"

[Nekoinu]

"Shit, uh." A pause. "Hey, Davian, how many did we sell?"

The intercom chimed in: "The dossiers say forty-two, with an unspecified amount for our next exchange."

[Layne Hoshin]

"And of course you have absolutely no moral qualms about sending them off to be slaughtered, do you?"

[Nekoinu]

"Shit, Layne, we didn't know what she was doing. Sith purchase slaves all the time. Kriff, I don't even know what she's doing after you two talked about it."

[Rumun Gol]

Rumun is calm. Waiting for the situation to devolve into chaos.

[Layne Hoshin]

"Why the fuck, should I believe a word that comes out your mouth?"

[Rumun Gol]

Perhaps the connection between Layne and these slavers is ?... it could be a possibility...Such a small galaxy, what are the odds! Rumun thought. He does not say a word, for now he waits.

[Nekoinu]

"Layne, you know me. I never did anything but shoot or punch people."

[Layne Hoshin]

"You're part of a murderous slaver crew," she said, taking a step closer. "And you think I'd forget what your boss and buddies did to me?"

[Nekoinu]

"That was pretty messed up. The old boss has been taken care of, not that that probably means a lot to you." He let out a sigh. "'No more kids' became a big rule, Layne."

The intercom came in: "Uh, yeah. Nowadays, we drop off any children to an orphanage."

[Layne Hoshin]

The mention of the orphanage made her have what for a little while might be described as a fit of laughter. "An orphanage. Riiight. An orphanage. You kill a bunch of people, take a bunch of slaves, and send their kids to the orphanage."

And then the laughter died, and she raised her lightsaber up at Orion again.

"Alright, listen up. I'm the new boss now. The Jaw of Oblivion works for me now. For free too. Consider it working off your kharmic debt or whatever. I don't care."

She hadn't figured out what came after that little speech yet. But she was working on it.

[Nekoinu]

Orion looked back up at the security camera. The intercom eventually came in: "Let's say we agreed. I can't imagine you'd want us to enslave anyone for you. So what would you even want from us?"

[Layne Hoshin]

That was an excellent question. What DID she want? Layne's planning still hadn't advanced that far.

"I'm sure I could think of a use for a slaver crew," she said.

But WHAT use? Goddamnit!

She turned to Rumun then, pointing her lightsaber directly at him. "How loyal are you to Haydriss?"

[Rumun Gol]

'' As loyal as a sith can be'' He says sarcastically, with a hint of a smile.

[Layne Hoshin]

She turned back to Orion. "How does the slave exchange with Haydriss normally go?"
