Jo'ren was just about to complain about the stupid droid damaging his saber when the doors flew open revealing some terrifying apparition. It turned out the big Sith was too stubborn to give in to the fear, although it cost him internal strength to resist it.

She gritted her teeth, and recognized power when she saw it. There was no use in foolishly trying to remain standing. Layne took a knee.

The figure reveals itself to be a woman.

She continues walking and says in a voice that is powerful and painful, “You tread in a sacred place that is my sanctuary, my children. You have disturbed my meditations into the yawning darkness.”

“You speak to the Voice of the Emperor, my children. He is me and I am him. Why have you invaded my sanctum?”

OOC: Remmington and Layne suffer 4 Conflict.

Through gritted teeth, she said. "This is supposed to be the sanctum of the traitor known as the Magpie."

[Dapper Dog]

“Then you have been fooled, Layne. This is my private sanctum, how did you find this place?” she says stopping a comfortable distance for the conversation.

Layne’s communicator beeps lightly.

[Jo'ren Rath]

Jo'ren bowed to the Voice but remained standing. "It is an honour to be in your presence."

What the fuck Layne. What the actual fuck?

He looked at Layne, as interested in her reply as the Voice seemed to be.

[Layne Hoshin]

If there was a way to listen to what the communicator had to say without the woman listening in, Layne would do so. Regardless, she'd call upon the force to try and get a sense of what the woman was feeling.

"Maybe you're lying," she said, wary, still recognizing the power here, but also not willing to just give everything up so easily. "Why would you have the need to ask such questions if you're the emperor?"

Layne senses a an infinite darkness a terror she has never known and more power than she can fathom any single being having.

The Voice cants her head to the left and says, “Deception is a tool of any Sith, child. I am not the Emperor himself, but I am his voice.”

Fixer 71 says into Layne’s ear only, “Good you are still alive. Tell the Voice that you seek her favor and know of a plot that will cripple the Empire in this sector.”

[Layne Hoshin]

"There's a plot that could cripple the empire in this sector," she said, repeating the words out loud. "Maybe our screwup could still be salvaged if you're willing to show favor."

It was a gamble... hopefully one that would pay off.

[Dapper Dog]

The Voice says, “Explain this plot, child.”

Fixer 71 says into her ear, “Tell her that Magpie threatens to unravel the Summit and that only the will of the Emperor can bring the Sith to heel. She will either kill you or consider it.”

[Layne Hoshin]

Great. Just fucking great.

Pushing aside the fear. The uncertainty. The rage. Layne simply did the only thing that seemed sensible under the circumstances.

"Magpie threathens to unravel the summit. Only the will of the emperor can bring the sith to heel."

[Dapper Dog]

“I see,”

The Voice says, “Is this why you have invaded my sanctum? Destroyed my servants and fouled my holdings with your presence?”

[Layne Hoshin]

"No. We had received intel this was likely to be a stronghold of the Magpie."

Keep it simple. Yes, Layne had theories about what was really happening. Vague and unformed. But she'd have much more of a future if she kept the theorizing and potential lying to a minimum. Stick to the basics.

[Dapper Dog]

“Such honesty, Layne it speaks well of you. Then it shall be,” the Voice says sternly.

“Hold out your hand, child.”

Fixer 71 chimes in speaking to Layne, “Good, you are not dead. Before you go, mention that Magpie has tapped into a great Power on the world of Voss. One that should be the Emperor’s, then your task is complete.”

[Layne Hoshin]

Goddamnit. I'm going to die.

"There's another thing," she said, holding out her hand, "I've been told that Magpie has tapped into a great power on the planet Voss. One that should belong to the emperor."

Goddamnit, goddamnit.

[Dapper Dog]

The Voice pauses and reaches a hand out and Layne feels force around her throat, “What power could possibly rival my own, Layne?”

“Do keep your hand out.”

[Layne Hoshin]

She kept her hand out, because hey, not doing so seemed kind of a bad idea with her throat under siege.

"I don't know," she said, assuming there was enough breath left in her. "I wasn't told specifics."

[Dapper Dog]

The Voice wavers between crushing and relenting and then relents. She puts a blackened crystal in the woman’s hands. “Give this to Xevious. Tell him, I am watching and that Magpie is now my enemy. Tell him, Happy Birthday. You will remember this.”

Then everything goes dark…

Layne and company are back on the transport in hyperspace back to Nar Shaddaa… and the crystal is still in her hand.

OOC: Dark Side flipped for Emperor weirdness. Daz dragged a droid back to work on during that conversation.

[Layne Hoshin]

"W-what..."

A bit of blinking later she looked at her compatriots, and then to the crystal in her hand. Was there anything she could discern about it?

[Dapper Dog]

It was a dark murky black swirl within the red crystal, but otherwise it seems unremarkable besides the feeling of dread attached to it.

[Jo'ren Rath]

"Well, that was a thing." Jo'ren looked at the group. "Anything you can walk away from, right?"

He looked at the crystal, wondering what it meant.

Remmington groans as he finally comes to. "Right... those kill droids were tougher than we gave them credit for. Is everyone okay?"

He looks around to check on their situation. When it looks like they are safe he goes to get the 1st aid kit and starts to bandage his wounds.

"Where is the kid?" He asks and then notices everyone staring at the crystal. He looks as well.

"Working on the droid we managed to recover," she said, looking up at the two sith and pocketing the crystal.

She had a few injuries on her, but she seemed pretty well-off, at least physically. Mentally, she seemed shaken by the encounter and the conversation that Remmington had missed.

"Things didn't exactly go according to plan," she said, looking mostly at Jo'ren, since he had managed to listen in on the conversation with the Voice.

At least not my plan, that is.
