[Day 1 - ME] Why Can't We be Friends? - Event

[Layne Hoshin]

"Tombs?" unlike him, she did look down at her own. "In a way, I guess. It dates from the time of Ajunta Pall."

He takes a moment to reply, behind the mask was a face of amazement.

"Hmph, all I know is the one I carry is from a guardian who protected tombs of the Dark Lords of Old."

He stares at her young face for a second

"You a delegate for negotiations tonight?" he asked expecting a no, but being open to surprises considering he has already been.

"I half suspect the academy restocks the tombs every few years with how much students still find in them."

Her idle gaze moved over the rest of the guests. "If I were, they'd be very short negotations."

[Dujar]

He gives a gruff snort.

Ha! This one is funny.

"Your master has other plans for these negotiations?"

[Layne Hoshin]

"Not that I know of. But you don't put a weapon in charge of peace negotiations unless you wish to break them off."

[Dujar]

He looks at her again then back to the crowd.

"Weapons seem to be the Empire's favourite tools for negotiation."

[Layne Hoshin]

"There are plenty here whose talents are not suited for handling a weapon. Even among the sith. The rest of us are just here for appearances."

[Sylvain Torsin]

"You flatter me Mr. Torsin." She stood a little straighter, "I am mostly just here to fetch coffee and answer questions about protocol and precedence." Yslane straightened her top. "And apparently break up possible fights." She says with a nervous amusement.

"I'm not as familiar with Sith protocol as I should be... The Sith handle negotiations themselves?"

He nodded, "The Sith formally stand at the head of all the Empire's institutions, including those related to foreign relations. Darth Xevious is a part of our highest ranking officials, occupying a position commonly referred to as a 'Dark Councillor'. My master, Darth Baras, also has much to do with interactions with the Republic and as such has sent me as a representative of his office."

[Yslane Tssilla]

"So then you are an Apprentice?" Her eyes shifted to Xevious briefly, "May I ask what prompted Darth Xevious to lead these talks over your own Master?"

Yslane's eyes travel across the other Imperials, noticing that all seem to be Sith or Military, "I meant more....there are none like me present. It seems your Empire sent mainly Sith and Military Officials." She pauses and looks over her own side, "I suppose....to be fair most of those present here on my side are Military or Jedi."

[Sylvain Torsin]

"My master has much on his plate at the moment. And Xevious ranks higher than my master in our bureaucracy." Sylvain replied.

"Even our 'civilian' leaders tend to hold military rank Miss Tssilla. Especially in a time of war like this, I suppose most of the actors will have some association with the military. Have you been sent as an aide to one of the senators here, or...?"

[Alysele Cortess]

Remmington shows a little surprise. "Oh a noble woman. From Alderaan. Well it is certainly a privilege to meet you my lady." He gives her a sweeping bow.

He chuckles a bit. "I think that would be against what we are all here for. I am just getting by as best as I can. I certainly enjoy swordsmanship and building things as well. I you really want, I wouldn't mind having a sparring match sometime. Though with training weapons.

I am just as interested in how you built your saber. I wonder what the similarities and differences are between us." He says with a pleasant smile. He keeps his hands well away from his saber.

"Thank you Sith Thalalas, the honor is mine." The response was slightly forced though.

"Perhaps... a bit later. I do not think even training weapons would ease the mood. Some day perhaps, some day." She patted her saber, but didn't withdrew it. "I hope you understand if I say that for the time beings, I wouldn't want to go into details of our Jedi training. I am thinking of accessorizing, so if you know of any place where I can find attachments, I would appreciate it."

[Yslane Tssilla]

"Not to any Senator in particular, though mainly I expect to support Senator Seir'oto," She nods toward the honorable gentleman from Mon Cal, "Best to think of me as part of pool of specialists the Foreign Office sent to support the negotiations in...well a variety of specialties, mainly things like linguistics and protocol. You...might be surprised how many talks started off badly because a translator choose one word over another. Or one of the negotiators wasn't aware that yellow was a symbol of death to the other side and thus taken as an open threat against them." The bureaucrat winced at that one...it was a much discussed incident even centuries after the fact in the Foreign Office. What she doesn't add is or kneeling to a side known for its will to dominate....publicly and at the beginning of a negotiation. There was probably going to be fallout and some would land on her for not stopping it, such is life.

"All your leadership have a military connotation?" Yslane's smile slips into the banal little smile that Civil Service types adopt to frown without frowning, "...its somewhat odd to me. In the Republic my mother is a civilian who works for the military, smoothing the connection between the Chiefs of Staff and their Senate overseers."

He nodded, "The Empire's political entity is primarily a military organization. It works under the Sith and in conjunction with them much like your mother would work with the military. To be a part of the political world is to be in the military. Those who do not have military rank and are of noble decent are usually wed to influential people within the military. Consolidating the many resources of the Empire into one unitary organization with a clearly defined hierarchy helps to maximize our economic, social, and military capabilities."

"Doesn't it also stifle your thinking? A singular purpose is all well and good, but if everyone is focused on it...is anyone looking at what lies beyond, before, or beside?" Yslane presses, keeping her tone inquisitive instead of accusatory, "Are you not trading adaptability for efficiency? Or vision for clarity?"

[Niall Organa]

"With all due respect Captain, I hope that the others are healthier and younger than I," she said with a laugh and a smile, "But to the peace talks."

She sipped then let the glass come to a rest in her left hand down near her waist.

"So far... it's interesting. I haven't spent a lot of time in Hutt controlled space so seeing so much Huttese is quite the change. Still, it's nice to practice it again.... But I haven't seen much of the moon yet, I've been pretty busy since I arrived. How about yourself?"

Niall laughed softly at her joke.

"Yes, this is a first for me as well, more or less. Certainly in a place of this sort. And busy, yes. I've been quite busy as well." He chewed his lower lip for a moment, then shook his head. "Ummm... you speak Huttese, do you?" His eyebrows went up. "Impressive. Part of your training?"

"Individuals can still specialize and compartmentalize their efforts. Creative individuals are granted the resources to continue improvising. Waste is reduced significantly. Those who are not suited to positions are moved to other areas where they may be more useful. We find this to be the most efficient, and just way to maintain social and political structures while providing protections from individuals who would seek to manipulate the cracks in the system for their own selfish benefit. There are of course many who still try to subvert the system, but the system is built in such a way as to be adaptable and progressive when need be." Sylvain replied.

"Well I mean...sorry if I implied you couldn't specialize but I mean more..." Yslane mulls her thoughts about, "Well...if everyone is focused on the same goal, which it seems like even those specializing do, then you may lose out someone coming in with a new...perspective on the situation. Moreover if everyone is connected to the military, at least tangentially, would they all not approach any problem from that angle?" She smiles more pleasantly now, "I mean, the Republic has thousands of worlds, each doing things there own way. Its admittedly inefficient. Slow and frustrating at times. But that same sort of diverse thinking often gives us solutions that are unexpected."

He tilted his head, "Statisically speaking I see no difference. Change is possible within our system, in fact implementing change is potentially much easier, with fewer levels of bureaucracy to inhibit proper administration. We too draw from a large base, and the problems we face are varied and numerous. Finding those problems, finding solutions, and implementing them are all important parts of resolving the issue. And the metrics suggest that our system has been equally effective or superior to your own since our establishment following the last Great War."

Yslane's face flushed a little at the first part of that, I'm not redundant. "I suppose that depends on the metrics used. But I can see your point: a physically smaller nation managed to rebuild to a point it could take on a larger one with success." She sighed, "Of course it is the metric that matters at the moment. And I am not familiar enough with your cultural contributions....art, music, and the like to make any sort of judgement. Most of what I have seen were what the Jedi allowed out from their time controlling Korriban and what archaeologists have uncovered from your old Empire. I must admit those works were beautiful, but wrong...unsettling even, the emotional state they conveyed was unclear to me."

Perhaps she had caught his look on her way, or the Force was just a fickle mistress, but the well-dressed Sith was moving towards the fair-headed Cole Ormont. Her manicured fingers turned the half-full glass idly in her hand.

"You must be with the Republic," she commented with a very refined Imperial accent.

Sylvain nodded at the woman's assessment. It was pleasant to find a woman with reflexive thinking capacity on the opposite side, "I must admit I don't care for much of the traditional Sith art either. I was raised in a military family of noble origins. I was raised to value a different aesthetic. My sister, who you just saw, has greater knowledge of art and culture than I do."

"Is the nobility limited to the Sith?" She asked, "Your sister is Sith, Sith is she not? I mean...Sith the species not Sith the follower of a philosophy...or Sith the member of an Empire led by the previously mentioned Sith philosophers." Yslane flushed slightly, stumbling over the multiple uses of Sith, "...let me start again. Is the nobility limited to those talented in the Force or are their lines that have no connection to the Force? And your sister is part of the Sith species correct?"

Cole pushed off the table and straightened, "I am. Petty Officer Cole Ormont, Galactic Republic Navy, Medical Division." He stuck out his hand somewhat awkwardly, he wasn't sure if the Sith would shake hands, but she certainly looked like she could break every one of his fingers if she did.

What was it with these Republic people who were so fond of shaking hands with Sith? Oh well, she played along for now with an amused expression on her face, and awarded him with a firm but not painful or finger-breaking handshake.

"Shaisha Vreysk, apprentice to Darth Vowrawn of the Dark Council." She cocked her head a little to the side. "A medical officer at a peace summit? So concerned about violent incidents?"

[Cole Ormont]

He shrugged and pushed the fingers of the hand that had shaken hers through his already tousled curls. "Eh, maybe Group Commander Ormont thought that sending me here might teach me an important lesson or two. Believe me, I'm just as mystified as you."

Cole was waving a waitress over, "do you need a refill?"

[Shaisha Vreysk]

"Sure, why not," she nodded at the offer of a refill. A poison-attempt seemed to be slim in a gathering like this.

"Group Commander Ormont? So a relative then? Believe I've heard that some of the Republic worlds, like Corellia and Alderaan, have much more stronger family traditions than the others..."

[Cole Ormont]

Cole took two cups from the waitress and offered one to Shaisha, chuckling wryly, "oh yeah, the Republic loves using nepotism to pull strings and mess in the lives of others," his tone was bitter, not mocking. "The Group Commander is a relative of mine," he confirms, without specifying exactly what the relationship between them was.

Taking a draught from the fresh cup, he studied the Pureblood with a neutral expression. "You're one of the Sith, aren't you? Heh, that's probably an offensive thing to ask! We don't have much information on the Purebloods, medically speaking." He gestures to his cheeks, "the, uh, ridges are quite handsome."
