"Why, you make her sound like a reasonable person," she said with a hint of sarcasm in her tone. "How did you come to meet such a lady?"

Carefully, "she was referred to me as a fellow medical professional. I don't think it will be possible to smooth off the rough edges of her bedside manner, but with a little more knowledge," Cole shrugs, "not to suggest that she isn't a fine medic in her own right. But there's always something more to learn, if you're willing to learn it."

He nodded, "A couple of my associates who were also on the ship. I detected the explosives at the last moment and was able to escape to safety, but others incurred injury. I believe Xevious may be talking to your leader about it at this event. It certainly was an interesting greeting card from the Republic. Though seeing that my father was killed by Republic operatives less than a year ago... I suppose I cannot expect anything less."

"We will have to wait and see on the investigation," She frowns, there were other options besides the Republic....but it was easy to spin this to damn the Republic. "There have been a lot of dead from this war. Which is why, as you pointed out earlier it is time for peace."

She let out a short, robotic laugh. "It must be the mask. I am Lord Haydriss. You should recall my heritage unless I was so far removed from you years ago." From the tone of her voice, it did not appear that she was displeased by nonrecognition.

His mouth tightens, but only slightly, "something of the opposite. I got into the business of putting soldiers back together rather than taking them apart. The xenology was an added bonus."

"Yes and no." He sighed. "Much more yes than no, though. Some things didn't seem to have changed at all. Other things... other things changed almost beyond my comprehending."

He spent a moment in contemplation of his own glass, swirling the liquid in his hand. "Perhaps if it was under different circumstances, it would have been less odd. But it was the very end of my recovery, and then followed by my sister's funeral. Those certainly added to the strangeness."

"My condolences," Hala replied, almost reflexively, "and I assumed your injury wasn't a new one."

"Then I shall certainly keep such in mind if there is any repeats of this morning's incident. Not that I believe the Republic will attempt such a gambit again... though, of course, there could always be a third party involved wishing to smear the good name of the Republic."

It was hard to tell if the predatory feel of this particular fullblood was unique to her, or was a common trait in her species.

"I know of him," she says reservedly, squaring her shoulders and hiding the slight tension with a casual sip of water. Something she had learned at those parties all those years ago.

"Thank you." Niall said, almost reflexively. "And it was a few months ago now. Long enough to heal entirely. Long enough that everything doesn't taste like Kolto anymore."

"He is reckless and," she trailed off. She raised her fist and clenched it. "I ask that you disregard him while in close proximity. I want him unharmed. I offer my services in medicine for the duration of the peace negotiations. I heard that you were injured this morning when you landed in the space port."

"I'm a medic before anything else. Doesn't need to be anything so dire as assassination. I can patch up huttball players just as proficiently."
